Neighborhood Nightmare…

We had a possum in the backyard that our dog had cornered on spring day. I can see why you would jump around. That sucker was a snarly hissing overgrown rat. But they're pretty slow. In my mind he was the bunny from the Holy Grail though.

Damn Crk that is one mean ass rabbit. U have those up there sir?

Sidewalks are well traveled here and every home has a large front porch. We like people too. Just don’t like looking at garages loaded up to the rafters with stuff and trucks sitting out.
Hmmm, glad u are happy sir. Dosen't work for me. My grand kids would think I passed away if my garage door was closed all the time. Oh mine isn't piled up to the rafters. In fact it has a 2019 Vett, 2021 Walkerbay Venture 14, and my wifes ride there.
Oop's , 2019 seadoo 155 or something. My Porches r in the open shed at the barn.

If they weren’t prone to passing out, they’d be terrifying with those teeth!

I had two stories going on a once

On top of hoa we also have a property management company the enforces the rules.
Middle of summer we are going on vacation so I bring the trailer home from storage to do some pm on it before getting the boat….. it was in the driveway…. 3 days later the property throws a letter in the mailbox that neighbors are complaining that it’s against the bylaws to have the trailer in the driveway
Our vacation gets delayed a week…. So trailer stayed
So I Decide to take the golf cart around the neighborhood and take pics of all the hoa infractions….. we live on a lake so tons of boats, trailers and jet skis in drive ways….. it took me maybe 2 hours and I had 60 picture infractions ….. I sent them to the property management group 15 at a time in 5 pic emails over the next 4 days…. Never heard a word from them after that :)
Maybe I’m “that guy” :D

Shit, I gotta dog and he can do what ever he wants as long as he takes care of me and the homestead. I don't keep him under the porch though.
We gave my daughter 5 acres to build a new house on. My dog had the run of our whole property so when they built he figured he could still shit there. Up until that point as long as he didn't do it on our lawn he was doing what he was supposed to. So right off the bat I got complaints because he sometimes craps on their grass, I told them this whole place was his until you guys got here. My son in law actually took those little flags on a wire, stuck them in the ground to mark the turds. I got news for you buddy, I'm not picking it up. So we had a standoff, the turds and flags accumulated until it was hard to cut his grass so he picked up the turds and took down the flags.....I won:cool:

Still ain’t worth it.
Wait until your neighbors build a pickleball court next to your back yard and those dumbasses are popping that ball around at 6:00 in the morning.

We took down all bird feeders except for humming bird feeders and I don't feed deer anymore, the bears would come for corn and apples. We don't see them right at the house very often since all that stopped. I've literally almost bumped into one several times but never had one act aggressive.

There was only one through the years that made me nervous, we watched him grow up, he was huge. He just seemed too comfortable around the house. I yell, sometimes shoot a gun and he wouldn't run. One time after repeated gunshots he walked slowly away, stopping a few times to look over his shoulder at me. Then he went over to a tree on the lawn stood up against it and itched his back, then he left, it was as if he was leaving because he wanted to, not because of me. A guy a couple miles down the road shot a real big one one year, it was probably him because we never saw him after.

I like the animals, wife saw a wolf walk through the yard last fall. My daughter got some video of a couple fishers killing a turkey by our driveway too.
Had a Fisher keep me in my boat as I was unloading it while on the trailer one evening in Corni. It sounded like a sick baby screaming. Wouldn’t leave and was just out of flashlight range but I was able to make out it’s eyes and head shape. I was banging and yelling at the flippin’ thing and it wouldn’t move for about 10 minutes. I had a filet knife in one hand and wasn’t getting out of that boat. My wife wondering what was taking so long, came out to find me, and slammed the screen door which made it run off. Mean little bastard. I guess the DNR introduced them to N.WI to take care of the porcupine?

Anyway, carry on with HOAs

Yikes….. we need to stop. I have this neighbor across the street nicest people on the planet. They are retired and the husband got terminal cancer and the wife goes and falls down the basement stairs. So they are not moving….. he is meticulous about his yard and he is the side of the street with the sidewalk so he battles poop all the time.
So I am outside I see a dog take a shit on Henks lawn and the guy kept walking. I never get upset but something just triggered me ….. so I grab a poop bag pick up the crap and start looking for the guy. Find him and say you left your shit…. He says he was coming back for it….. he goes ya I am the father-in-law of your other neighbors and I am house and dog sitting ….. in my head I said okay don’t throw the shit at him….. my mouth said don’t wait so long next time especially on a neighbors lawn.

he wasn’t picking up that shit….. he was just a quick thinker :)

I’m a very light sleeper and that would not bother me in the slightest.

I have a pickle ball court at my business and am well aware of the (little) amount of noise generated.

I hit a fisher with my truck, killed it. I was surprised how heavy he was for his size, all muscle. They're carnivores and pretty tough. A friend heard some noise in his back yard, looked out the window and a fisher had his big scrappy tom cat by the back of the neck carrying him into the woods.

I never knew what a Fisher was. After it was mentioned on here I googled it. Wow. Are those legal to hunt/kill? Are they only in the NE part of the country?

I saw a stuffed one up in Jan Lake, Saskatchewan, but I don't know if you can hunt or trap them.

In Michigan you are required to obtain a kill tag. Those are free for fishers and a few other pelt animals.

HOA for my home is great. They pay to maintain the common areas nicely. They enforce the rules that make sense: Keep your grass cut; fences have to be within a foot of the property line; no sheds or structures that aren't attached to the house; no fences in the front yard. Simple stuff.

The HOA for our condo at the lake has been a shit show in the past. Using the insurance policy for items the members should have paid for through assessment. So much so that when we had a real claim ($2.5M to replace all the roofs) the insurance company paid the claim and dropped us in the same breath. They are metal roofs and should have been under warranty, but a previous HOA hired a company to install ice guards on the roofs.
The company did not check with the manufacturer as to their accepted method for doing this, instead just running screws through the roofing to attach the guards. Warranty void. The roofing company that did the install went out of business shortly thereafter. That also left us scrambling to find insurance. No top tier company would touch us. We finally got insurance through some obscure company. The first thing they did was demand that all grills be removed from the property (everybody had one) because of fire risk. Failure to comply was immediate cancelation. So last fall everybody hauled their grills home or to the dumpster. Another iteration of the HOA board hired a company to replace the association's pool and paid in advance only to have the company disappear after all the plumbing was buried. Pressure tested it and it blew apart. The board never thought to ask if the company was insured and didn't think to ask for a bond. $100,000 down the drain. So we started over, but had to do a special assessment this time. The residents were very interested in seeing the insurance and bonding for the second company. They did a nice job. Long story short, it cuts both ways.

I have never seen a normal or smart person sit on an hoa board
