Greetings: Any suggestions as to what kind I should purchase and where? There is a $99 one at West Marine, several recommended I should purchase that one (see below link) but wanted to be sure in terms of load etc. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/promariner--prosport-12-heavy-duty-marine-battery-charger--14152151?recordNum=1 Thanks.
The one you posted is not designed to supply 12vdc for use while on shore power, only to charge. Like creekwood said, go with a pronautic. We did the 1220 for our 2 bank (3 group 27’s) on our 290 and it works great. 1220/1230 should do the job depending on your battery setup.
Id first want to know how many banks and what their Ah is. A 12A 2 bank is a little small if one of those banks is a dedicated house bank. Just ok for 2 bank setup if both banks are group 24 cranking batteries.
Thank you everyone, this is what I have, only one charger mounted, will pronautic 1230 do the job of the one attached? Thanks.
I just installed a Pronautic 1240P, which replaced the original 20 amp charger. Seems to be well made and no need to muck with pesky dip switches.
Yes. Took me about 2 hours. The new charger was a slightly different foot print so I had to drill new mounting holes and extend the DC cables by about a foot. But basically the install is reverse of removal. I also purchased the optional remote controller, but have not yet routed the cable to the mounting location. Just remember to disconnect shore power and turn off the converter breakers in the DC breaker panel before you muck with the wiring.
I just noticed it looks like the one you are replacing is a 40 amp charger (according to the label) so best to go with the 1240, rather than the 1230.
