Eriksen Marine in Austin had been listing one - it's a 480MY though

Well I bought a 2004 390 MY last thursday and took off from north end of Lake Ponchetrain La and took it down the intercoastal waterway all the way home to Kemah Tx. After a few sleepless nights mulling over weather to hire captain/crew to deliver boat to me I decided to just hire local captain, John Dupre and my wife and I do the crew part. He was amazing, he lives on a 32ft sail boat in my marina. Hesatant at first to spend that much time with total stranger but couldn't have worked out better. He knew every inch of the 400 miles and had been delivering ALL kinds of boats all over the western hemisphere. Which natch led to zillions of stories!
I am in LUUUUVE with this boat, truly amazing boat. It did everything the boat test says it does except maybe the top speed, if I caught a little current I found myself at times bumping it up to 30 knots! My captain knew of some great spots to anchor off.
Got home in 3 days running as I kept it up on plane most of the time. It's another world dealing with tugs/tows etc when your in this size boat. I had to get used to slowing down for most of them and of course all the fishermen out there on the weekend! Huge wake!!!! However I did find out towards the end of trip that at full speed (2,650 rpm) the wake got a lot smaller as boat really leveled out. However the smart gage was saying 45 GPH and my wallet starts to vibrate, it's sweet spot was about 2,200rpm with gave me about 22knots. In the end I got the boat home in plenty of time before T day thus keeping wifey happy! Got the best detail gang starting to tear into it today, gonna make it look like new! Thanks to Greg Welton Marine for doing a great professional brokering service and cannot thank captain John Dupre enough for great travel companion and great experience! If you ever thought about hiring a captain, stop thinking about it, worth their weight in gold!
I was comfy driving the boat most of the way and have total confidence in it. Brought it home to new slip and with the bow thruster (my first) I brought it in like a pro, all the way in and didn't touch the sides of either finger piers and they are only 12" wider than my beam! now to find a new name for beauty, that's the hardest part so far! chuck

Great story.

Congratulations and enjoy!

That's some good stuff! Congratulations and welcome to CSR!

Chuck, thanks for sharing you story, well-done!! You are already enjoying it to the max, and here is to many, many more great times!!! When you have a chance, please post some pics of your awesome new vessel!!!!

Nice. Seems like we get way too many horror stories on the site lately so great to hear something so upbeat and positive. Best of luck - you have a beautiful, well built boat.

Chuck, Glad to see that you got the boat you wanted, and decided to bring her home yourself. Although a much shorter distance, I too had a captain help me bring mine home. It's a great way to get familiar with the boat, all it's systems, and learn a lot about seamanship.

Make sure you follow the correct renaming ceremony for the boat (search CSR), no one needs bad Mojo.

Best of luck, Art

Congrats on your condo....I mean boat!

Congrats. I love the look of those boats. Would love to hear more details about your trip across LA.
