I'm not a game person so I wondering if some of you younger guys are and could possibly help me.

my kids are on their 3rd xbox 360 and it is out of warranty. Previous 2 got the 3 red flashing rings. Based on what I have read this could be a heat issue causing these failures.

Does anyone use a cooling fan and if so has it helped?

thanks

I have one of the very first xbox 360's made and I've never had a cooling problem with it. Where do you keep the xbox 360 when it's on? ARe there lots of stuff on it around it? Is it on it's side or laying down?

River water will cool it nicely

My kids spend way to much playing video games

gyrospiro,
I agree with ya! to much time. but..................

Morpheus,
First one was kept horizontal in a large electronics cabinet and it melted down in about 2 weeks. Lot a space in that cabinet but is was enclosed

Second one was kept near the TV also horizontally and last several months until it died.

I told them last night I think we should keep it in the open and possibly put bigger feet on it so it can cool better. I just don't want this one to die soon. These things are way to expensive.

I recently bought a nintendo game system from Game Stop for my daughter, for an additional $10 they gave me a replacement gty. For one year from the date of purchase, they will replace the unit with a brand new one. Considering your recent luck, might be worth the $10 - Hope you have better luck with the next one

My buddy has had one since they first came out. He puts his on a hard surface out in an open area. Actually sits on an oak tv tray stand. Never had an overheating issue.

x box 360 red lights.. happened to mine.. if you look it up at mirosofts wevsite its something burnt inside the unit.. nothing to do with cooling because i have the big cooling fans in the back of mine and it still did it.. luckly i purchased the warranty plan. i paid nothing to get a brand new one but i had to purchase a new warranty plan on the new one, cost me 60 bucks and if it happens again i pay nothing again.. sucks that it has to happen but it does.. my next computer im going mac.

As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge—including shipping—for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past. In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.
