Need pump out on the hard

...side note, there is no way i can "zip-tie" my discharge valve closed. there is no lock out hole or option on the valve. any clues as to not create a fine able offense, without removing the valve?

1. Close the valve and remove it. A real PITA if boarded and the inspector wants to see the position of the valve by you placing the handle on it.

2. Drill a hole in the handle (or buy a new one with a hole in it) and zip tie it closed to where ever you can. Saint Max has a small eye bolt glassed in the stringer (looks factory) that lines up with the hole in the handle when the seacock is closed. A small lock or a zip tie works well.

The intent of the law is not the render the system incapable, but to have it secured until it is legal to dump overboard. Unfortunately, a lot of overzealous folks do not understand the intent.

actually thats a good idea. i could put an eye bolt(small one) into the engine room floor or close to the floor and seal it in then drill a hole into the handle and add a zip tie. i dont plan to use it except to rinse out when on the hard but i'm moving the boat next year to a private dock on family land and dont know where the closest pump out will be. might be easier to jump 3 miles out. on the chart it shows 3 mile limit right in our travel path on the way to oak bluffs which we will be frequenting often.

Didn't realize this thread was still ongoing. I will change the duck bills in the spring. At least I was able to pump out. Now what's all this talk about taking handles off and zip tying this or that? What am I missing. I always keep the valve closed and have never used the overboard discharge. M

Technically, according to USCG regs, MSD overboard discharge handles must be in a closed and locked position when in waters that don't allow overboard discharge. "Locked" is a loose term as it can be zip-tied in the closed position or even simply have the handle removed. The point is that it can't be accidentally opened. For me, I just removed the handle and put it in my tool bag. I still made sure to exercise the seacock a few times a season, though.
