Bought our 2001 410da last year and I believe we need a new mattress for the forward stateroom.

Looking for a recommendation on a new mattress. I am in Long Island, NY, so how do we try out the mattress before ordering? Or is buying a boat mattress a lot different from buying a mattress for the home, from a testing for comfort standpoint?

What brand or company is recommended?

Also, any idea of how much it is.

Thanks,

Jeff

Ask Gioia - they custom make for Sea Ray, Silverton, etc. as OEM. Just made me a new one for the forward berth in my 460 - I would say it's "queen plus" in size. I toured their manufacturing in Lakewood and was impressed with how they did it. Plus, they took care of the custom sized bedding - sheets, etc.

We purchased a roll of 4" high density foam, cut to fit and placed it on top of our standard mattress. Huge difference in comfort without a large investment. Google "memory foam" and you will find a multitude of suppliers.

You can buy the memory foam at Overstock.com for $150, huge difference. We did it in 30 minutes with a razor knife.

We had the foam before we enlarge the sleeping area - it was doable but not real comfortable, not to mention not large enough. Gioia used a foam outer layer but actually made the mattress with real springs, etc - like you have at home. The support is so much better. Probably wasn't necessary, but we're happy with it. Cost was around $750.

Check out fpmarine.com. Last time I was on looking at their site, they had a mattress from a either 410DA or a 410EC....

Mike,

Who or what is Gioia?

Jeff

FYI - Gioia has a shop in NJ too....their main one is in Lakewood. Talk to Derek via this site if you want but NJ is a helluva lot closer to get one than their FL shop...

In this case, the mattress would be produced at our NJ shop.

*Jeff - I left you a voicemail yesterday...
