Greetings Boaters!

I need some help and I am sure this is the right place to look for it. My father-in-law has a 1988 27' SeaRay Sundancer that has been un-named for a long time. It has been a wish of his to get vinyl lettering put on the back of the boat, but I'm not sure he has the time or the dedication to get it done on his own. So for Christmas I would like to get some vinyl lettering done for his boat. My problem is that I am not 100% sure on the measurements of the back of the boat, and that's where I am hoping someone can help.

I figured that 6" tall lettering would probably suffice, but I just wanted to be sure.
The name he has wanted for a while is "Hull A'board" (his last name is Hull).

If there is someone out there who has an 88' Sundancer, could you please give me the height and width of the back?

I will post a link to a Sundancer with the area that I need measured for further reference:

I need the measurements of the area where the "Hard 2 Dock" lettering is at in the picture.

If anyone could help I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thanks!!

Bakerboy, you didn't way what area you're located in, but I would imagine that any sign shop in your area can make those decals in whatever size/design/font you want, and have it done in just a couple of days. I recommend that if you get the measurements you want, have them make the decals just an inch or two smaller than the area you have to work with. The decals will look better if they don't stretch all the way across the transom.

Bakerboy,

I recently ordered custom vinyl lettering from Overton's using their online webtool. You will need to know what size area you have to work with and what spacing you want. You can choose from dozens of different fonts, colors, sizes etc. I tried viewing several of the different fonts to see what I liked. The vinyl "decal" is first rate quality, and went on without any problem. I even cut mine into 3 sections as my is made up of 3 words "Second Time Around". It is so simple to apply with a spray bottle of water and a couple drops of liquid soap so the decal can be moved into proper position. Then use a plastic squeegie to take out any air bubbles. Ours went on in less than 15 minutes total and looks awesome. They charge by the size of the letter, and how many letters you have. My total charge was $38 using 4" high letters and a fancy font type. The delivery was within about 10 days or less. I've had it on the boat since July and it still looks like brand new. Make sure you have a flat surface to work with.

Hopefully, someone will respond to you with the size of the area.

I have used these guys before. Very helpful and fairly cheap but if KarenS can help you out all the better.

Unfortunately none of us have really helped answer your question about the size of the area. In the thread below you can see my name applied. It measures 7 inches tall by 48 inches wide. Louisville, TN is 3 inches tall and 28 inches wide. The beam of my boat is 9 foot 2 inches, if this info helps.

Thank you all so much for your quick responses!

I already have someone who will be doing the vinyl for me, I just needed the sizes without going to my father-in-law and asking him. The boat is under shrink-wrap now for the winter, so I might not be able to get at it (were in Michigan, just south of Detroit).

Thanks for your help!

-Loneranger: thank you for your dimensions! I actually saw your boat when I was searching the forum for anything that might have already been posted regarding letter sizes. Thanks!

I believe that I will be ordering vinyl that is 6" tall and 48" wide for the name of the boat and smaller vinyl that is 2" tall by 30" wide. Thanks for everyone's help and input!

My dad has the same boat in Annapolis. (Yours looks in great shape by the way!). Although we have the heavy winter canvases on already, I think that area is still exposed. I can measure this weekend and take pictures if you still need them.
