Recently purchased a 1998 Sea Ray 230 Signature Overnighter last October. The boat is currently in storage and I'm in the need for new canvas. I contacted Great Lakes Boat Top Company and was informed that they could not help me because they no longer have the pattern(s) either due to the number of years that have past or changes to boat design. Does anybody have any suggestions on other vendors that I can contact that may have the patterns for this boat? I'm looking for a new cockpit cover, bimini top with a camper enclosure. Any input would be great! Thanks!

Find a custom canvas person in your area. You might even prefer what you get from them, I did.

Agree, find a local canvas shop. Actually get two bids and prepare for sticker shock. I would bid it if you were in my area.

Thank you for the suggestions so far. Looks like a custom canvas may be my only feasible option. The joys of boat ownership.

Let me know what kind of estimate prices you get (if you do not mind). I am curious what other canvas shops are charging.

W2F,
I started my canvas business 1 yr ago. Looking to retire in 3-5 years and need beer money. I have not been real vocal about it on here because I do not want to violate any advertising rules on this great forum.

Boatswain's Locker had the pattern for my 450DA. You might give them a try. I purchased new canvas from them after hurricane Katrina and they were excellent to work with.

You are not afraid to try anything! I'm going to PM you.

Quint 4, I'm new to the canvas world. I have the current (old) cockpit cover for the boat. Would you be able to produce a new cockpit cover without seeing the boat if you had the old cockpit cover? Just asking...
What part of OHIO are you in?

First off...welcome to Club Sea Ray.

I would need the boat to make a properly fitting cover. I have tried using old canvas as a pattern and it does not produce a product I would be happy with.

You can get away with it on very small pieces (small helm cover or maybe a side window).

I did a Bimini top, front and side windows, for a 380 Sundancer using the old canvas as patterns. It looked awesome in my shop, I was quite proud. I took it down to the marina to install on the boat and it absolutely would not fit! I had to remake everything. There is over 20 hours of my life I will never get back ....ha ha.

I am 20 minutes North of Cincinnati.

Thank you for the welcome. This is very informative site, especially for someone like me new to boating.
I plan on contacting a few local canvas shops here in Northern Indiana for quotes. Once I receive the quotes, I'll contact you and find out if you can work me up a deal. It would only be a 2.5 hour drive for me to get the boat to you. Not bad. Plus, I like visiting Cincinnati!

I had a new canvas made for my 1998 210 Signature, along with vinyl repair to the sunpad, front seat, and the side cushioning that were torn by the bimini frame- all done at the very end of last summer. My boat was at a service facility having a swim platform installed at the time and he happened to share the building with a canvas shop. I couldn't be happier with the work... they matched the existing bimini top fabric exactly and the fit is custom snug. So looking forward to this coming Spring!! I winterized her as soon as i got the boat back and haven't had a chance to enjoy the upgrades.
