I know I asked this same question last season but the shoals seem to change frequently
Running from lindenhurst to shinnecock Locks. Everything is pretty straight forward except for two spots.
1. Moriches bay. Is it safe to cut through the newly dredged area north of the island at moriches inlet or are we still heading south around the island then back north? Are either directions well marked?
2. Conning out of East quage no wake zone were you head up north to Tianna bay conflicting comments about keeping the red to port or starboard.

Any other tricky spots between the gsb and ponaquage bridge?

There is some info on this in the LICC, on boater Ed dot com.

I have a friend who went up hard in the "normal" channel in moriches last sat at high tide. I would call sea tow or Boat us and ask for there local knowledge. Sea tow was very helpful to me last year. Seems to be a bit dicey. Slow is the name of the game as always. have a great trip

So odd, A bunch of guys went east 2 weeks ago no problem in on the north side channel . High tide is 2 hrs off Moriches inlet high tide not the coast guard station !

Rob

I always tried to avoid at area at all cost. I'd take a rough ride outside before I'd try moriches.

Joe, I've bypassed Moriches in the past, but FI adds 2 hrs to my trip for an eastern destination. I'm hearing the north channel is passable at tide (marker 26 is tricky), and will be heading thst way next weekend. I always give sea tow a call a few days before, they have always helped with up to date local knowledge.

Just go around bird island from the south, when you make the right turn to get back in the channel it is a little squirrelly at low tide but nothing like the north side of the island directly in front of coastguard station ..

In terms of your second question ( i.e., east of east quoge) I have the same question- always conflicting data when it comes to that part of the inside

Hmm ...... I'm really trying to take the inside to make it comfy and fun for my 2 year old. If I must go outside I'll do that but I really want to stay in but not having confident information is kinda scary

Also, the tides are not great for that Friday.

Pmc please set you plotter to leave a crumb trail and share please. How far east are you staying inside?

We're not headed too far, just east of Potunk Pt. (West Hampton ). I'll post my tracks around moriches with hopefully uneventful news ha!

I did it 4th of July weekend. Went through 2 hrs after Coast Guard High tide no problems you can see the sand bar coming out at buoy 26 to 27. I wouldn't wait any long then that. Sea tow Moriches said 2 hrs either side of Coast guard high tide

High tide that day is 430am so I'm definitely not making that two hour window.... if I head south of the island the rest of the trip should be good unless I wonder out of the channel?

In years past I thought the problem was around 17 A and then again 26 to 27. 17 A was no problem. 4:30 am high tide sucks. When i went through it was 4:09 am High tide at Coast guard. I left Lindenhurst at 4:30 am by the time I went by Buoy 26 it was 6:10 am

Those will probably be the hours I will be traveling. Plan on waking up right around 430 and pushing off very soon after so it may work out then

Take it slow and easy around the area, especially buoy 26 and 27. In the pictures posted it looks like the trail does a little jog around the buoys there.

If you see a SeaTow boat that is nearby (and not already towing someone), ask them to "show you the way". They did that for me and Ron last time we went through there.

Only issue with that is I'm a boat us member..
