Nater Potater's Build Thread

Thanks Jhorn, but these are the upper shift/throttle cables. Tried oiling them but didn't do much. Time for them to come out. I don't know if they have ever had any maintenance or been changed. 36 years.

Oh, that sucks! I can't imagine what it would be like to snake cables through the gunwales of one of these pigs. I get the feeling I'll be replacing my topside controls in the next year or two, but that's the easy part. Good luck with your mechanic.

In order to speed the work up, I went down this evening and disconnected the topside controls like you taught me. This time I went a little further and disconnected the cables from the control box and the throttle levers. All the mechanic has to do now is disconnect the cables in the engine compartment and, with my help, pull the old cables and install the new ones. Admittedly, snaking the new one from the engine compartment to the control box may be easier said than done. WE will get it done. I just hope it doesn't take 2 days.

I need to do a frame like that for winter tarping. I really hate losing my saw horses for the winter. But I worry about scratching the deck up. Never know what the wind will do here.

The next picture is missing the final 2X4 from the windshield support to the wing, but you get the idea.

Use the old cables to pull the new ones into place by overlapping the ends about a foot, then wrapping with duct tape. With any luck, the now double-thick section will still be able to pass through any bulkheads.

I finally have a spot to keep both boats and RV's out of the weather.
I still need to finish the doors and floors, but it's coming along.
I put it in here a couple of weeks ago while getting it ready for a trip and rain was coming.

Bang the drum, I finally got the decals pasted on the outdrives!

I was even able to burn the serial numbers into them with the laser scriber

"Driver" serial number: I didn't notice that until sitting down to etch them, but I figured "What the heck." I don't imagine anyone else will notice it unless I mention it. Oopsie!
At this point, it's just down to the generator issues.

Those drives are looking pretty good! I guess I'll have to get the inside scoop on how you did it or at least go back and read the thread. I wonder if my drives need some internal work after 33 years on the water?

Generator? You won't need no stinking generator!! That's just for the gray Poupon crowd! Sorry Greg!!

Awesome job on the drives, Nate. They look amazing. Congrats on getting her running and sea worthy. Good luck on the generator.

Nater, I just noticed that one of your outdrives says Counter Rotation on it. So, you have a left- and right-hand prop on the outdrives? I'm jealous! Mine are both standard right-handed (I think!) rotation. I didn't realize Sea Ray did that on some of their outdrives. That should help around the dock. I may have to go for a ride with you!

Those look great but up here we need more pitch to the sides for snow load, so they are built higher. If they are too low, the snow can build up and sag the wrap enough to hold the snow and bend in the bow rails. We also run the front down the bow pulpit so its not the rails that carry the load up front. Nice trailer BTW, other than it needs a paint job!. Looks like its a tight but good fit for the side guides.

Congratulations! Awesome job! Happy for you Nathan!
