What the Hell is going on in Nassau County??? They just buried a Police Officer yesterday and Today a Cop was shot and Killed as was a Civilian???? WTF!

Yea lovely area I live in right? It just took me 3 hours to get home because someone decided they wanted to take the life of an officer not to mention the other guy he killed to steal a car to get away. I dont get people... just stupid and unfair.. They still havnt found him... I herd from somebody else so I'm not sure if its true but supposedly the x wife of the cop buried today was found dead in her apt. (No homicide case supposedly suicide)

I'm on LI also and its sad that this happened. But if the cop had worn his vest maybe he would still be here to talk about it. They are given the tools to protect themselfs and choose not to use them for what ever reasons. The poor guy that was car jacked was a result of a man that has no morals and doesnt care who he hurts.

I just heard the shooter was shot and taken into custody.

F'en psychos!! I wish they would just put a few bullets in the perps head and toss his carcass in the dump. He is a true POS in the sense of the word. I hope he gets a flesh eating infection in his wound and dies a slow, painful, miserable death!

And can we please refrain from blaming the cop here? It was a basic traffic stop that he's probably made thousands of times before. Please don't go there with this thread.

Todd, that certainly isn't where I was going. I was just providing the link to the article that showed it. My brother is currently a police officer and I was a deputy for 6 years. We all become complaisant. I myself have patrolled without a vest before just because it was a brutally hot day. Who knows why he didn't have his on. Could have been any number of reasons. He was shot in the chest, so would it have saved him, quite possibly. However, judging or second guessing wont bring him back. Hopefully lessons will be learned by it and it will serve as a reminder to all law enforcement professionals what kind of evil they are dealing with. Maybe that reminder will save another officers life and officer Lopez's life and death won't be in vain. May this perp rot in hell and let's hope he is gang raped to death sooner rather than later so we don't have to pay for his prison bills for life. RIP officer Lopez and be careful out there everyone!!

very sad. economy could unfortunately make these terrible acts happen more often

My comment wasn't directed at you Shaun. It was in response to post #5. You just happened to type faster than me!

I have many friends that are on the job and this certainly wasn't the time or place for that conversation IMO! Most of my friends on the job spent the day at the other officers funeral yesterday. I'm sure the poor fellow wished he was wearing a vest too! It's very easy for people to sit back and throw out their Monday morning quarterback comments after the fact. The problem is this isn't someone using the wrong wax on their gelcoat or the wrong broker who lied to them. A man just lost his life for Christ's sake!!

Let's show some sensitivity and not be so quick to throw out the "Blame the Victim" comments!

Ok, thanks Todd. I assumed that was the case but I also in no way wanted my posting the link to the article with that info in it to look like I was condemning as well. I am truly sorry for the loss your friends are dealing with. I saw they just lost another from a DUI suspect. What a terrible time for that dept and community. My condolences to all of you in that area and your friends on the force.
