I was warned, but did not think it would be so high.

At homeport the diesel was 3.19 per gl

Greenport, Ny was 3.69

Nantucket was 4.40 per gl PLUS 2% island tax and an additional MA state sales tax of 5 %.

Next time its fuel in Falmouth.

Dave,
I took on 220 gallons on Sunday at $2.50/gallon.
The most expensive diesel I have purchased this season was $2.89 a gallon.

If I were paying upwards of $4 a gallon I would have to get a good set of hearing protection to drown out the complaints from the flag deck.

Time for you to move on down south of the Mason Dixon line!

Did you get my e-mail regarding pricing on the new ones?

regards
Skip

I'm sure their feeling is that if you're here on your boat....you can afford it. I buy my fuel in Falmouth before I go.

Dave:

No need to move that far south. In NJ, I'm paying in the $2.45 range. Besides....they talk funny down there... :)

Dave, I need some advise. We are thinking about Block Island for Labor Day weekend and it would be my fist time with the wife and small children on a trip that far. I made that trip from a few times with the guys over the last few years but never with the family.

it seems like the sea conditions in BI sound is 2 - 4ft under normal conditions. should this concern me? I really dont want the wife and kids to have a bad experience for a 3 + hour ride each way.

Hi Jim, the 380 is fine in that water. Just dont travel against the tide and into a north east wind. watch the weather and time the tide. check the tide at the race and try to get through at slack or up to an hour after. first time-try a clear day. What day are you going over. If you dont have reservations you better get there on wed for a town mooring otherwise your dropping your hook. I may be up there based on the weather as well. Hope to see you up there.

Dave

We may be there too. Still waiting to hear if we can get a free slip at Brewers in Mystic, but looks like we may be on the hook at Block.

Jim,

I take my 380 to Block several times a year. 2-4 footers are common, but not necessarily the norm. Many times, the seas are quite calm. Of course, the best time to travel is early in the morning (preferably in the fog) for real calm seas on Block Island Sound.

However, it can get snotty out there. My buddy came back from block today in 3-4 foot seas hitting his starboard side bow the whole way (in a 320 Sundancer). He said he had trouble keeping the boat on a straight course due to the waves.

My advice is to travel early, when the winds are calmer. 10-15 Knots, you should be OK. 20 Knots, and Block Island Sound can really kick up some seas.

Thanks for the advise guys. I would like to leave next Friday afternoon and run with the tide. I will keep an eye on the weather and see what happens. Maybe we will see you there!

Dave, do you prefer to go to Block through the Race or Plum Gut? We are thinking about leaving CT on Fri afternoon and coming back Mon. Think the weather is favorable for a long trip like Block?

Jim, I always go through the race.

The trip should take you 3, 3+ hours, thats not long. I would leave as early as possible, the weather looks good, we have a little breeze here in Block this morning. Come on up Its Christmas and New Years at Champlins and all the boats are decorated, they have a best boat contest, frosty and santa will be there also. Come on up, i'm on a town mooring. I'll keep my eyes open for you, I'm looking for Seagull also.

I'm going home on monday also.

Dave, I am planning on leaving about 3pm and run with the tide. Think the forecast is in my favor? I am worried about Mondays high winds coming back. Think it will be a problem?

Monday they are calling for SW winds 15-20kts seas 3-5 in BI Sound. should I need to be worried? I need to return on Monday
