Wait a minute.......this is a Sea Ray master dealer so he certainly should have methods and procedures in place for accountability. Beyond that, he must have certified technicians in place in order to get and keep master dealer status. The yard help may be part time, but I doubt the core group of employees are.
I guess everyone has their own way of getting the most out of the dealer relationshihp. I have a great relationship with our dealer and its mostly based now on friendship. I take the time to get to know the mechanics, the parts guy, the fiberglass guy, the service manager, the travel lift /boat yard guy, etc. I ask about children, wives, dogs, their hobbies, etc. I treat them like guests when they are on the boat, not servants. On the boat side of things, my boat is as clean as new ones (cleaner, I've vacuumed up the sawdust and construction debris)....you can eat in my bilge. The mechanics love working on my boat because they can get to everything and not get filthy doing it. Its kind of a game now, but I always thank who ever worked on the boat for keeping it so clean by telling them "Did you work on my boat? I can't even see where you got on it?"
It is a lot more fun to be friendly and positive about the work you've had done on your boat, but there is the other side of the coin, I am as picky as hell and down right anal about the condition of my boat. I'm like a mean, sore-tailed bear with a hangover when someone damages my boat or screws up something on it. Nobody much cares to see that side of me.
The bottom line here is that you get better work and better service when the dealer's people know you take care of your boat and they respect you for not accepting crappy work.
