My service dealer out of line ?

Wait a minute.......this is a Sea Ray master dealer so he certainly should have methods and procedures in place for accountability. Beyond that, he must have certified technicians in place in order to get and keep master dealer status. The yard help may be part time, but I doubt the core group of employees are.

I guess everyone has their own way of getting the most out of the dealer relationshihp. I have a great relationship with our dealer and its mostly based now on friendship. I take the time to get to know the mechanics, the parts guy, the fiberglass guy, the service manager, the travel lift /boat yard guy, etc. I ask about children, wives, dogs, their hobbies, etc. I treat them like guests when they are on the boat, not servants. On the boat side of things, my boat is as clean as new ones (cleaner, I've vacuumed up the sawdust and construction debris)....you can eat in my bilge. The mechanics love working on my boat because they can get to everything and not get filthy doing it. Its kind of a game now, but I always thank who ever worked on the boat for keeping it so clean by telling them "Did you work on my boat? I can't even see where you got on it?"

It is a lot more fun to be friendly and positive about the work you've had done on your boat, but there is the other side of the coin, I am as picky as hell and down right anal about the condition of my boat. I'm like a mean, sore-tailed bear with a hangover when someone damages my boat or screws up something on it. Nobody much cares to see that side of me.

The bottom line here is that you get better work and better service when the dealer's people know you take care of your boat and they respect you for not accepting crappy work.

The short version of this is a "Come to Jesus Meeting" :smt014

Back on point. Dealer is screwing up...make him hold his horses till your boat has been inspected to your satisfaction and then tell him it's ok to launch.

We have had same with this dealer. We have always treated them with lots of sugar- From Dounuts to cheese and sausage, and soda on hot days.
For the most part they have come through with flying colors. Then a tech walks accross our cockpit carpet with grease on his shoes and tries to wipe it up. We would not pick the boat up unitil it was cleaned. Could not beleive they left it that way for us to pick up.

Makes me wonder what it would be like if two SR dealers were in one area....

You will be getting the standard call checking on if you were satisfied with the service in about a week. They are not trained to deal with the negative response. Be ready for that.

I'm with Frank - Your stuck with them, best to make friends with them. ( And that is pretty hard for me to do some times.)

Escapade, I believe we have the same owner, mine is the main office in Illinois... I'll be in Milwaukee in 3rd week of June, capt. lead weekend cruise...
Frank, I am exactly like you when it comes to my boat and service dept... Most of the techs/managers/salespeople all know me... They also know my boat is immaculate at all times... It's frustrating when things are overlooked, that were highlighted :smt024
I finally splashed at 3pm, mist, steady 20mph NE winds with 25+gusts :smt101 ... minutes of 180&360degree spins :smt100 in front of well, poor bow thruster no macth for the gusts :smt009 , I was very successful in getting into everybody elses empty slips  but my own :smt021 ... North wind kept pushing me away from finger, thruster and lateral gear walking!!!!! got in
Goodnews, my boat was detailed like a new delivery
Although I spent three hours detailing the cockpit FRANKS meathod style :smt038 , tomorrow I begin my detail below decks...

classic story of "nice guys finish last." my guess is that octupus is known at the dealer as a genuinely nice guy and they may be thinking, "he wont mind. he's pretty cool about stuff." this is also a classic case of being taken for granted. you are a customer that should be treated like gold! all others should be back-burner-ed for a customer like you, if anyone HAD to be back burner-ed. one philosophy that applies to my business (and EACH AND EVERY service business) - just about anyone can do a good install, a good detailing job, a good oil change, a good fuel pump swap out. what sets one provider apart from another is CUSTOMER SERVICE. plain and simple. i'd just be pissed that i was not given the courtesy i deserved; but it sounds like they now realize it. hopefully they use this as a learning experience. GLAD IT ALL WORKED OUT FOR YOU!

There is no reason to have your boat serviced at a SR dealer just because it's a SR. We had poor service at a marina many years ago and took our business to a competitor. As it turned out, the place where we store our boat ended up buying he the other guy who was going belly up. Now the service there is on the upswing. BTW, we have quite a few people from the Chicago area who use our local marinas so maybe the service on that side of the lake leaves something to be desired.

Your on good ground!

If your come to jesus meeting did ot get you the satisfaction you deserve raise hell publically in the show room!

Make it clear to everyone that they can not ignor their promises to a customer that bought three boats in side two years ..

If you havent treid it, you may want to call Sea RAy customer service and get them on the dealers case. A call from HQ can work wonders sometimes.

The mess they wanted to leave you with is simply inexcuseable and they should feel the pain of their poor judgement.

IMHO

Octopus IV...how is the cockpit heat/air working out? Was it really big bucks getting the unit installed? I really like the looks of your boat...hope you got all of your situation worked out with the dealer.

Bottom Line,

The A/C is working great, although hot day temps have not exceeded 78 degrees... 48-52 degree evenings have made cockpit heat worth the $$$$ (yes big $, price of a KIA car :smt101 ) My dealer issues have improved... I see your 300DA is up for sale... looking for a bigger, low 45hrs, fully loaded (Sat tv, thruster, auto pilot, davitts, custom factory interior, gen, etc.) 2006 38DA :smt043 ? THX

While I love my boat and prefer it over a Regal - I do know that my local Regal dealer doesn't let things like this happen. But - my local S-R dealer - while I like them you have to manage them.
I'm sorry if I'm chiming in on something here, but thought that maybe a strong message might be reaching Sea Ray here if they happen to read all this....
While I do not have the size boat you guys all are talking about, my experience very closely matchs up as far as dealer/service related issues. We have had to have the dealer service techs visit our boat just once and the experience was less than satisfactory. First, he made it sound as though the issue was our fault and not the fault of a faulty part. Did a so-so job and left us wondering if we were going to have more problems. The only time we took the boat back to the dealer we felt like we were bothering them.
But between me and the dealer is a dealership for another brand, and since they are also a certified Mercruiser shop we gave them a try. They treat my boat like a treasured possession and us with utmost respect. In fact, after doing something minor on our trailer this spring, they called to ask if we would like them to go ahead and flush the fresh water system, etc. while they had the boat. Honestly, I do not like their boats as well as Sea Ray, but they sure make a strong case for changing brands when we trade up in size.
Honest treatment and simple respect seem to be in such short supply these days that, for me, it is becoming a deciding factor in future purchases.

I am looking at the old style 360DA. I really like the looks of your boat and the hardtop. We have a new 38DA at our marina, but I have not caught the owner on it to take a peek. Kind of off topic, but am curious..can you fill any seating areas in the cockpit to make a sunpad? What was your previous boat? Glad all worked out well....

Bottom Line,

We can hijack :smt021 , I originated the post... My previous was a 2005 300DA  . I thought it was enough for me, I bought the 38 2mos later at the SR Expo Show... Yes there is a filler pad for the cockpit... The 38DA is a mini-me of the the 40&44DA, an "enhanced" 360 w/hardtop and sport yacht interior for $250k+ less...

we looked at one last and really liked the 38da but couldn't decide because of the center walk thru.
How do you like the center walk thru,

Gyrospiro,

we love the center transom door, it is a tight seal when aft curtain is up, few bugs get in... we have St.Croix davitt arms on transom for the dinghy... the transom lockers are huge for a boat this size, actually I have more functional space than the 44DA transom locker

Thanks for the info...I really like the 300DA...but with 4 of us on board, it get "tight" at times. A couple of options I would like on the next rig....a "real" mattress and a separate shower...both of which your boat has. How do you like the center transom door? I don't know...but maybe the 38DA will be the next boat. Thanks again for the info....do you have any pics?

Oh...the reason I asked about the cockpit air...our dealer had a Sea Ray De Mayo last weekend...a cruise to a marina and lunch. Some of the salesman cruised in a used 500DB...which we drooled over...oops...meant looked at...went up on the bridge..and the air was on...and I thought...cockpit air could be great. Wow..85 degrees and cruising in the AC....sweet!!
