My SeaDek Has Arrived!

I cut the wrap this week and will get some pics up today.

It's a great product, looks incredible, and I get tons of questions and compliments all the time.

We are seriously considering this option as well. The scary part for me is that I see these beautiful SeaDek and NuTeak installs, but I also see boats like this in our marina (fresh water, covered docks) and the vision isn't quite as appealing. What type of maintenance does this stuff need to keep from looking like +&^*? (I was told this was the vinyl product, but I didn't go on his boat and analyze it)

Since you've had it on all last season, how did it fare? Still looks new? Would you do it again?

We are in the proceses of installing PlasDECK on our 340, looks really great so far...just have the swim platform and caulking left to do, which is still quite a bit of work. Will post some pics when it's all done (if I ever work out how )

Did you do this install yourself? I'm considering doing the same project on my 2003 340, which appears to be the same layout as your year model. Was the process pretty straight forward?

I'm more concerned with the template than actually applying the product on the boat.

Thanks in advance!

I like everything but the gunwales, Maybe if the "boards" ran the other direction - Not sure - Looking for some pics of this finished.

I almost had nuteek installed on my swim platform and head but at $2500 installed, I opted out. I also saw a few boats in my marina with the fake teak products that did not look so hot after I would assume several years of sun exposure. I spend a lot of time on my swim step with the kids swimming, etc. I do like the idea of the soft sea deck material for that reason. But, I am concerned this lower density plastic will break down quicker than the PVC products. I am also worried I may blow DIY install with this sea deck as I have heard this is not as easy as it looks. Any thoughts on longevity of the sea deck and install?

Yes we installed it ourselves, with the help of a VERY, helpful son-in-law:) The template arrived as ordered for our 340, we laid it out flat for a day or two to ensure it was flat for installing on the deck as it came rolled in transit (the warmer the weather the better.) It came with good instructions and Travis of ttcustommarine is very helpful if you have any questions. You do need a floor roller and lots of old T shirts are best for rags to wipe up, plus denatured alcohol and gloves, etc. If you follow their directions it's pretty straight forward and "less really is more" when it comes to putting the glue down for the deck.

However, caulking all the edges once the floor is down is a pretty big job, it took us longer than laying the PlasDECK down! It's the masking off that takes the time. You see folk who do not have the edges caulked but we think it finishes it off. One big thing to watch is make sure that you line up the stripes so that when you stand on the dock looking at the swim platform the cockpit deck stripes line up with the s/platform you don't want them out of line. We are sure you will love it if you go ahead with it, we love ours and get lots of unsolicited comments on how good it looks. It has certainly updated our cruisers look. If you need any other info PM us and we will try to help out. Good luck!

I plan on ordering this material soon for my swim platform. I spend alot of time on the swim step, and like the soft, cushy platorm it provides. My main concern, about how long will it last with 24/7 sun and salt water exposure, and can it be fairly easily removed in order to add new sea deck when it does turn color from sun exposure?

I also contacted Sea Deck and I have been unable to get these questions answered. Any input, on this, or other items to consider form people who have used this stuff would be appreciated. Thanks Bill.

Bill,

One of the main reasons we went with PlasDECK, apart from the quality, was that someone on CSR (sorry I can'r remember who or which thread he posted in) posted photos of his deck done with PlasDECK a year after he had done it and it looked just the same as when it was new. And he was still delighted with it. Any patches or ingrained spills that won't come out with normal deck cleaner can be sanded out. May I suggest you call Travis of www.ttcustommarine.com I am sure he will answer your questions, send you install photos and samples. Good Luck!
