My Sandy Story

Just got off the Phone with Ron on my way back from the Marina.... Sheesh!! Doesn't sound good!! Went below deck of my Boat and she's totally Dry and to MM's credit any holes in the Shrink Wrap were Patched Up!! Now still waiting for a call from the Surveyor! I think I got off Luckier than Most!!!

Anyone looking for a project boat? Was an '85(?) 340DA. This is the one that got dropped on. Blocked pretty nicely, wouldn't you say?

I guess in this case the Marina will be Responsible for the Owners Deductible!! and then some!

They can buff that right out. :smt101

Sorry, couldn't resist...just an attempt to inject some humor in an otherwise depressing situation

They'll say it was like that already. Seriously, they'll say the boat was hopeless anyway. The owner probably has no recourse. All you can get is the insured value of the boat - you can't collect from two sources on the same boat. Maybe he'll get the deductible, but nothing more.

Geeze...looks like Green Cove is the place to stay if you're looking to get rid of your boat.

Ron, I give you a lot of credit for maintaining cool. Very unlikely I'd be able to do the same. I'm very sorry to see these pix. I'd love to see you have your attorney shoving GCM management nose and pockets the same way they lifted your boat.

Good luck with everything.

Had to be newer then 85 it had the arch. IT was also an express. sheesh. so sad. Good luck guys I feel like checking on my boat now!

The lack of spreader bars proves that they are either a) inexperienced with boats or b) like Ron said - already considering them scrap.

Was the 340 damaged prior to the Doral body slam?

@Alex...there was a moment when I did not keep my cool. Which accomplished nothing, truthfully. Not even sure it was therapeutic.

@Aaron...The Express was sunken like the rest of us. Can't say how bad the damage was prior to the crushing blow as no one was allowed into their boats prior to hauling. You can see its position in this pic...

It seems like the boats that came to rest on land were lifted more responsibly - probably b/c they were considered savable but also b/c the straps could be positioned closer to where they belong. I don't believe there was a diver involved with the sunken boats so the slings were placed "wherever."

Haphazard rigging and water sloshing around in some of those boats would make them hard to handle. There's another thread on CSR about a small SR that took on saltwater for a few hrs. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/55898-My-newly-purchased-260-was-under-water-today Most everyone responded that the boat is totaled and recommended getting a lawyer. If that view is actually correct maybe I can understand the treatment that some of the Sandy boats receive.

This is so sad to read. Your boat might have had some minor damage in the engine room and they completely flooded your cabin when they pulled the boat. You are 100% correct that they should have put the plugs back in and pumped out the water before moving it.
The crane operators have to assume some liability for this. It seems that Shinn crane is a rental company. I have to assume that they don't rent to any off the street and the certification is required. I would want to know who rented the crane, who was operating it and what instructions did Green Cove Marina give them. Your boat might have been repairable and know I am guessing it is totaled.

Make sure you download all the pictures before they disappear. You may need them.

Good advice - already thought of that. Was actually wondering why they would even post those pix. I have to admire their "full disclosure."

What liability is there though? You can only recover the insured value of the boat. No "Mental grief and anguish." Will the ins co. try and subrogate on the grounds that the marina or crane guy made things worse and forbid me from taking steps to mitigate damages? possibly - but remember...no one was allowed to go on their boats for "Safety Reasons" so they can just say "it was already like that." Besides all this conjecture, Allstate probably won't waste time with legal stuff - not for the pittance that this boat is worth.

Still waiting for a call from the surveyor that Allstate has hired. Also have to get on the boat myself to see what's going on inside. Won't be able to get down there until Friday.

Good luck Ron. I hope your insured value is enough to replace your boat if needed. The question I have is regarding the personal contents of the vessel. We keep quite a lot on our boat at all times but I'm unclear if those items are insured as well. Sounds like I need to have a discussion with my broker.

Ron that Tuesday morning the tide at 2:30 am was at higest where your boat was on land there was 6 to 7 feet of water. I have seen many boats on land that did not come off stands and the top of motors were under and boats look like no damage they sunk on land and people will find out inspring. The larger 35 and up 18000 lb boats did not move but filled with water.
