My new Sport 190 ready for maiden voyage

Interesting. So that isn't a marine radio. I guess the glove box door is enough to keep it from getting wet. Not a bad price for that online (around $100). Do you know if the wiring harness is the same as stock? I would like the iPod controls and the Pandora would be nice also.

We learned a lot from our first trip last weekend about the 190. The original owner mentioned that he never had the carpet in the boat - we left it in and it was full of sand after a couple stops. Not sure how many power-washing it will take before I ditch it. We also noted that the locking glove box only holds a small amount of stuff. I will probably invest in some locking handles for the ski locker so we can put purses etc in there when we stop for lunch and leave the boat. Took a bit for me to learn the trim on the boat but I think I have it figure out. I have never owned a I/O boat with a swim platform before so it took getting used to using the trim gauge instead of visually seeing the motor trim up (outboard). I still need to figure out how shallow I can go at different trims. I know you aren't supposed to go over 1200 RPM with the trailer tilt all the way up.

Sorry, I have not idea on the wiring harness - my dealer did all the installation for me on the sound system.
I have certainly noticed it does not take much uptrim at all while on plane, it can be sensitive to trim settings.
I saw that same comment about not going over 1200 rpm with trailer tilt up, not sure I would be comfortable at all letting the motor run with the trailer tilt all the way up.

Looking good! Makes me want to get mine out, hopefully next week!

Don, I saw this 190 online and thought of you might get a kick out of the custom getcoat! :)

Whoa , looks pretty cool - that one will definitely be unique at the lake!

Thanks,

No matter which size boat I had, my technique is to have the boat running in neutral before pulling the anchor. That way, it's one less step if you have to react quickly.

Sounds like a good tip, I will certainly make that a habit, thanks.

** Outing #3 **

Yesterday for Memorial Day we took the new boat out for our third outing of the year, and this time took our first passengers - my daughter, her husband, and their two youngest boys.
Everyone had a blast , while the weather was showing around 30% chance of thundershowers, the day ended up clearing up late morning and was really pretty the rest of the day.
I now have about 7.5 hours on the new 4.3 MPI. The boat is still running and performing great, have not had a single issue.
The water was still a little chilly for swimming ( about 73 degrees), but all still had a great time.

Glad to hear everything is still going well with the boat. Finally took mine out this week. 2 times. Once with the boat Captain from the marina to give me a run through since we couldnt in Feb. Then I took it out myself for the 1st time on Sunday of Memorial day weekend. Everything went great. The boat started and ran great. Sure was fun to drive. The Mississppi river is still above flood stage so you still have no wake most places. I was really worried aboat loading the boat on the trailer at the end of the day. When I did it the first time with the boat captain we power loaded and I thought I was going to put it through the back window of the truck. But it went well. So when I had to do it myself I didnt know how it would turn out but I just let it float up to the trailer and just before we hit the back bunk I gave it a little shot of gas it went right on. About a foot short of the front winch roller so I just cranked in on the rest of the way. So it went smooth. I was losing sleep over that. Sorry still no pictures. I have some good ones lined up just hadnt had time to do it. This site makes dowloading pictures a bit cumbersome. One quick question. What are you seeing for gas consumption on your 190? I have about 3.5 hrs and the tank is 3/4 full. But I think theres more than that in the tank. I will top it off this weekend before I take it out that will give me a better idea.

Congrats Terry, glad to hear your first outings went well also!
I look forward to seeing some pics - fwiw, I mainly use Photobucket to host my pics and just link to them in the posts here, pretty easy to do.

I have found loading the boat on the trailer to be pretty easy as well, the wife and I have it down now to where we can have it loaded and out of the lake in a very few minutes. I idle on ( moving in and out of gear briefly) and end up just little short of the bow stop, and then the wife hooks it up and winches it in the remainder ( about a foot or so).

Hard to say on gas consumption, I stop off at a non-ethanol gas station on the way home and fill it up each time on the return trip home.
I have about 8 hours or so on the engine now, three trips, and have not used quite half a tank each trip - probably around 27-30 gallons total combined. This last trip it took 12 gallons to fill it up and I had run it most that trip, the previous two trips probably around 8-10 gallons each... we cruise up to the dam after putting in each time, and it is about a 40 minute cruise one way.
It certainly seems to be getting better mileage than that ole 1990 180BR I had which had a 4.3 in it as well.

Woohoo, day 4 coming up. Just waiting on our 2 oldest grandkids to get here, we are taking them out for the day and then they are spending the night with us.
I think we have already had more nice weekends than last summer - fun times!

Day 4 was a blast, we had our two oldest grandchildren out all day long. We had one isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon we had to dodge, but were able to run up to the north end of the lake and stay out of it for the most part, just had a little rain on the trip up to get away from it.

The 190 continues to perform flawlessly, the engine just eclipsed the 10 hour mark at the end of the day - augh, double digits on the ole hour meter now! We ran the boat a good bit, and ended up using exactly half a tank of gas, filled it up on the way home and it took 13 gallons.

Couple of gals came by on paddle board in the cove we were anchored in, 8 year old granddaughter asked if it was fun, one of them said come on and try it:

Don:

Have a quick question on your Magma Grill. Is that the 15 or 17 inch model and do you know which mount size you have? I was thinking your size would fit on the bimini or the loading handle on the back of the boat (do you know if it would?)

Hi Scott,
I am away at this time, but pretty sure the Magma is the 15" model, and the mount was for either 1" or 7/8" rails - it has an insert that you slip over the rail if you need the 7/8", I had to use the insert on mine.

I can check to be sure when I get back this weekend, but pretty positive that is what I have. I would have to check the loading handle, but think it would be the same size.

Yesterday we made trip #5.
It was a gorgeous day here all day yesterday, nothing but sun with high in the mid 80's. Water was a tad bit cool at around 76, but still swimmable.
The new boat ran flawlessly once again, now have just over 13 hours on the motor. We cruised a while yesterday, a couple of us tubed a bit, and still only used around 11 gallons of gas.

We had an added treat, the Air Show was going on yesterday and it was not far from where we put in on the lake. We put in on the southern end, and as we cruised north toward the dam, it was like a freakin armada of boats coming south - there must have been over 100 boats coming to anchor and watch some of the airshow. Many were cruisers, needless to say there was considerable choppiness on the water lol. So after anchoring north up by the dam for a while, we made our way back toward the southern end and had a good spot to watch some of the show. We were on the water about 10 hours yesterday.

The only negative, at the end of the day trying to load the boat, heck just trying to get to the dock to get out and get the trailer into the water, was a chore. There were some folks just parked there at the dock where we unload, drinking, carrying on - and very rude. They reeked of alcohol. One guy was making the approach in his boat to his trailer in the water, and a boat came across just in front of him to the side of the dock, at a 90 degree angle, his boat hanging out right in the poor guy's way trying to get on his trailer. He looked at me and we just shook our heads. Unreal. Interesting, as busy a day as it was on the lake yesterday, I did not see a single TWRA boat out there... I guess they were parked watching the airshow! It took us a half on hour just to get to the dock so I could get out and get the trailer in the water...

Scott,
My Magma is the 15" - in hindsight wish I had of got the 17", but so far it has been sufficient as we rarely have more than 4-5 folks on the boat ( us included). It will hold 4 really larger burgers, and probably 6 medium sized with no problem. Much more than that, would need to do to rounds of grilling.

I got the 1" rail mount , also fits 7/8" as well:

I attach mine to the bimini support pole ( the angular one that does not twist) as seen in the pics earlier in this thread.

The bimini support pole, and that hand grab rail above the swim platform, is 7/8". There is a plastic sleeve you attach to the rail to mount the magma bracket on for 7/8" poles.

Hope this helps,

I ended up getting your same set up but included the legs for use on the beach. It worked out great last weekend using it on the beach. I tried the bimini pole mount in the garage and that is probably where I would use it if we anchored instead of beaching. I couldn't get it to work on the rear grab rail because of how the tightening system is set up. I might go to the hardware store and get a wingnut and try that.

Magma grill was great, I did beer brats using the grill as a stove then finished by browning them on the grill. I think the 15 inch is perfect for 2-5 people. And it is small enough to store on the starboard side compartment.

Glad you enjoyed it! We have been out in our new 190 5 times now , and we have used the Magma 5 times.

Another great day on the water today. We just got finished cleaning the boat up , covering and putting it away till next weekend.
Goodness, it has been a while since I posted in this thread, looks like the last time we were on about our 5th trip out, we must have 13-14 trips under our belt now.
Got almost 30 hours on the motor now.

I have to say, I have been very impressed and very pleased with our new Sport 190. The boat has ran flawlessly for us, not a hiccup at all. I know it is just the baby Sea Ray, but we sure do love it and are having a lot of fun with it. Most all the grandkids have been out it in it, swimming, tubing. Love making those memories with them. And I thoroughly enjoy as well, just being out there with my wife, anchoring and swimming and just hanging out.

Today we decided to leave the Magma grill at home for the first time - we have cooked out on every trip so far - but today, we treated ourselves to lunch at one of the Marina's. It was great.

We have been lucky with some really nice weekends this year, we have already got to go boating way more this year with the new boat, than we did all of last year with the old one. Sadly the summer is winding down, and won't be too much longer it will be time to winterize and put it away until next season. But we sure are going to enjoy it as much as we can for the remainder of this season.
