My latest crazy idea which involves selling my 50DA for.....

Sooooo, you’ve got your 50DA tuned in just right and now want to go backwards to the 88 Project? With all due respect, you need therapy!! IMHO, you should keep the perfect 50, spend the extra time simply ENJOYING the boat. Oh, one other idea, tell your Admiral that you are going with HER suggestion to spend more time on the boat WITH HER. You may find that you have some spectacular times with her. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I will give my 2 cents and let you chew on that just like others have. They are good looking boats in my opinion. I like the layout and accommodations are reasonable. There is nothing inherently wrong with the two stroke V8s. But they are an old engine and if you get above your head, it can be difficult to find an expert now that can help you out. There’s still enough Series 60 out on the road that there is reasonable support for them, but even the old 2 stroke fire trucks have been replaced now for the most part and you will struggle. Sone work on a 2 stroke requires some special tools and finesse. When you couple that with the balsa hull and water intrusion issues they are known for, I would run from that type of project.

The cost of entry may be less, but is it really? If you like to have nice things, which I think you do too...how much will you be spending to bring back an old Ocean to your standards? I often think about the same thing, but by the time I would be finished to have something of that vintage up to my standards I would be way over what I thought that I saved.

I have been involved in a lot of older Detroit boats in my line of work, unless YOU have the know how to repair them or have a younger guy that knows them inside and out who is at your beck and call I would look elsewhere. In our area, a good Detroit mechanic is already hard to find and the good ones are getting pretty close to retirement with no replacement in sight.

Last year I had a client who waited 9 months for the proper parts to rebuild their 892's, every cylinder kit that was sent had at least one flawed part from the aftermarket kits, the genuine Detroit parts were basically unavailable at the time.

I love the Ocean lineup, I could see myself in a later model 48 someday but it would have Cats or MTU Series 60's.

I always look at it this way, whether buying or selling a home, thinking of a new job or even getting a different boat. No decision can be made without an offer in hand. I'm not ready to be a 3 boat owner so before I can really entertain this idea my 50DA needs to be sold. Until then I'm living in lala land as my wife often says.

You know my thoughts on this crazy idea already but last week as we were surveying another brand sportfish, the surveyor commented that there's enough glass in this boat to build two Oceans. The captain then chimed in and said I bet Ocean just used the scraps that were leftover...we all laughed, that says it all for me.

Philosophy has served me well, wife agrees. Taught my kids, they agree….
When in doubt do nothing.
Prevents buyers remorse, over-reaction, bug-up-your-ass decisions, divorces, cutting off the kids, bypassing getting a mistress.

SLOOOOOWWWWW DOOWWWNN!

Funniest skit since A and C did Whos on first! Classic!

That's an '04 50, not quite the same animal. It's been on the market for a few months with very little interest per the broker.

I think they are all pretty sexy. Gives the ole 48 Sea Ray a run for it's money IMO :)

2000 48 SS?
