I purchased my first Sea Ray back in 1996. A 1986 230 Weekender. It was a great boat. That only lasted a couple years. My wife wasn't all that much of a boater back then. It was always me and one or both of my young sons for a weekend of boating and fishing. One weekend of the marina life and she decided that was for her. Two years later, I upgraded to something with an aft cabin for our family of four (268DA). On my 4th Sea Ray since then.

The 268 da is ny first sea ray and i really love it. I am hoping for prop advice on it . I get fecent performance with the 3 blade mirage i got with the boat but it seems to want higher rpms than i want to buy to keep on plane .ive got the 7.4 bravo in my boat . Can anyone reccomend a prop that will give ne the ability to stay on plane at lower rpms . Looking for pitch and diameter suggestions for a 4 blade running with a lightly loaded boat . No dink hanging on the stern . Fresh cold water use. Im not caring about top end performance in the least
Nice to see you have been able to upgrade over the years

dvx, care to share more details about the boat and when and where you got it?
So after years of owning 2 run abouts the last one was a 21.5 Baja that I bought in the summer of 2003 that fall my wife Ruth was Dx with brain cancer the following fall of 2004 it came back and she had another surgery. To make a long story short the Baja scared the hell out of her so we sold it went for a few years without boating. Went on a house boat trip and we decided to try something different . We found this 1988 230 Wk. in Erie Pa. thought that Ruth would feel more secure in a boat like this. We started going to our usual small lakes and then I found this web site. Met Buckeye Boater and Aftica and started going to Lake Erie. The 230wk. got new upholstery, new mooring cover, camper top, battery charging system and even a portable AC system that sat in the cock pit and was duct into the cabin. For 3 seasons the 230wk. made plenty of trips to the islands with our new group of friends. 2 seasons ago we sold her and replaced her with a 2000 310da. The 230wk. was a sturdy little boat and got us into cruising and because of Sea Ray and this site we met a great bunch of people.

I ran a 17" pitch Mirage stainless 3 blade on my 268DA and was satisfied with the performance. I too had the 7.4L/Bravo 1. I don't remember what the diameter was. I think I could stay on plane using full tabs down to about 20 mph. I'll guess that was somewhere in the area of 2300 rpm...but that is more of a guess, it's been a while since I've had that boat.

1984 Searay 207 Monaco. 5.7 260 hp with alpha 1 out drive. She is a great boat. Had her for 5 seasons. Family grew so we had to get a bigger boat. Hated to see her go.
