My experience with Walker Bay Boats

I believe him as the President of the company that a check is in the mail.

I think getting the President involved, having him see all correspondences, pictures, etc. helped this come to a fast conclusion. Did the blog help along with seeing it on discussion boards......YES!!!

Now when you type "Walker Bay Boats Experience" into google, you get this thread. You gotta love the power of the internet.

What can one say, I am typically open minded, but after having read you blog postings, I can only say I have a bad taste in my mouth regarding a certain dinghy manufacturing entity and myself considering their product(s). For if there is one thing I cannot stand is the run-around scenario. :smt013

Perhaps someone should point them to the library or "Google" and W. Edwards Deeming

You got your money well almost move on and be done with it.
How's the dam weather up there? I moved here 21 years ago. My sister is in Westpot. Couldn't do the winters any longer.

Mike,
I'm on Long Island and the weather sucks!! I got ~4 " of snow today and they are expecting another 6" or so overnight. We have been getting snow every 5 days or so since Christmas and I'm done!! Of course in between the snow we were lucky enough to get some record setting cold weather, 5 degrees a couple days in a row!! Yipeeeeee!!!!

Mike,
In the famous words of Danny Glover in ALL of the Lethal Weapon movies...." I'm getting too old for this sh!t!"

What part of South Florida do you hail from now? I've spent some time on the Gulf Coast, Cape Coral/ Ft. Myers area and of course Ft. Lauderdale on the east coast.

So my experience with warranty issues with Walker Bay Boats is exactly the opposite. I called, explained the problem that I had with the hull of my RIB after owning it for a year or so. They said take it to the dealer and within the week had advised me to go pick up my new boat.

Then two years after that, I had an issue where the logo and rub rails got sticky. I called asked for some help again - this time out of warranty. They told me to take it to the dealer again (I also had poked a hole in it the weekend prior that I was unable to patch and told them on the phone what I had done and that I needed some help getting it patched) - I dropped the boat off...and what do you know I called them the next week b/c they did not call me... and they said they were waiting for a new boat to ship from Mexico...and within two I had another brand new boat.

For me this company has been completely amazing. I would rather talk on the phone than send e-mail and I had the same point of contact the same time and he was above and beyond for me each and every time. Each and every time I was patient, I documented as we talked and I would follow up with the same person every time.

Just like when I call Sea Ray customer service - I have one guy every time (Rick - he is the man). If it is a dire emergency and the boat is sinking I might consider talking to someone else but he is my man at Sea Ray.

I suppose there are two sides to every company. I am wondering how the majority of their customers feel...like me or like you?

My guess....Like you!

I did start with phone calls and was treated like you great....Then for whatever reason, that person was no longer there and the problems started......We all have problems in our own businesses or jobs.....It is how we deal with those problems that set companies/people apart...I get more repeat business on how we handle our problems on job sites and with dealing with very difficult owners......We suck it up and do what is right in the bigger picture....I thought the president was thoughtful and honest in doing what was right.

Thanks for posting your experience with Walker Bay. I have been looking at getting a new dinghy and HAD (emphasis on the past tense) considered Walker Bay.

The list gets shorter and shorter.

Perhaps there is some misunderstanding here. I am glad you are on a path to get this straight.

But when one starts on something in May of 2010 an it takes until the end of January 2011, then something is wrong.

I for one myself will not continue to do business with a or recommend a company where I have to go through all of this turmoil. But then again I am old school, not PC, and very honest with high personal responsibility. I am not suggesting Wetpaint you are not or implying it, just stating about me. If I contact your company about an issue, then it is what I perceive to be a valid point, I believed in your product, so now you need to stand behind what you sold me.

As to "move on," One typically always moves on eventually. The president has apparently done the right thing, but if I was in his shoes, I would send you a gift card for a meal or something and then insure this never happened again. A couple of months corresponding back and forth should have been enough to have corrected this issue, not 7-8 months.

Wet,

Thanks for posting your fiasco with Walker Bay. I just returned from the Seattle Boat Show yesterday where we looked at all the dingys. I need to replace a worn out Mercury and was maybe 3 hours away from going back up and purchasing a Walker Bay.
I have no problem with the occasional product issue if the manufacturer stands by his/her product but this is one of the most blatant "screw the customer" situations I have ever seen.
Just so you know, your experience cost Walker Bay a cash in hand sale today. Sorry about what you went through, but thanks for saving me from possibly making a similar mistake with a less than honest manufacturer.

What about pain and suffering? What about emotional distress and reimbursement for your time and anguish?

Seriously, Happy for you--they should have done this in the first place. Like you mentioned in your Blog, "This economy." In any economy it is all about Customer Service.

I was thinking there would be a loss of consortium claim from the Admiral.
