I wanted to share with you what I did over the weekend.... replaced the old (original) instrument and switch panels of my 290; the old ones looked tired and colorless and here are the new ones!! It took me pretty much the whole weekend to do it (I had to drill new holes, label all those wires, etc) but my time I believe paid off.

Big change! Well worth the time invested I'd say.

Looks great! That's something I'd like to do to ours someday. The gauges, switches and dash themselves look okay on ours, but most of the indicator light covers are broken or missing. Good job!

An update on the replacement of these panels.... I just came back from a ride at night (all lights on) and I noticed a noise that comes from the navigation lights!! It disappears once I switch it off. What could have happened? Is there any filter that for some reason got damaged while changing the panel?

    Thanks

I would go with the new switch for the NAV lights, or one of the recently reconnected connections. The question is where is the noise actually coming from? It would be possible for a bad electrical connection to create static in the VHF, or the Stereo speakers, but is the noise coming from the new panel itself??

2000SR380, I just checked and the noise comes from behind the instrument panel and it sounds only on the second position of the navigation lights (when the red and green lights come on). Nothing to do with the radio, so I will investigate tomorrow to see what's the deal.

    Thanks

Mystery noise! Be sure and post what you find. Maybe there is a warning buzzer behind the panel picking up static from a marginal connection or induced current from one of the running light wires? I have seen where a ramped up Stereo power wire induced enough current in a nearby wiring harness to partially activate a relay. Symptom was an annoying clicking sound. I fixed the problem with some aluminum foil, and a couple of tie-wraps. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. The New Panel does look good, and nothing worth while is ever easy;0)

Thanks for your intentions!! I found it. I noticed that if I move the console dimmer to the off position, the noise disappears, so I dismounted the switch panel and I found a loose connection on the ribbon type light strips that provide lights to the translucent switch names so problem solved!!

    Many thanks
