So, picked up my 2005 Sea Ray 240 Select this weekend in Okoboji, Iowa and my 2014 Shorlander 5500# trailer, drove 5 hours back to Dubuque, Iowa (on the Mississippi near Wisconson/Illinois/Iowa borders)

I have a few projects that I am sure I will have questions about.

1. The gauges all work, but are all cracked. So I will want to locate replacements, same ones if possible, or a full set (upgrade?) that are similar.

2. The Vinyl is not too bad. I have a few tears and the darker colored parts are showing some cracking. I have several places to call in my area to fix it for me. (i dont think i will DIY on that, im too picky and a novice at upholstery)

3. Missing the wood trim part on the glove box I think. Where can I find that?

And, really that is about it. The mechanicals are all excellent. Dealer replaced the outdrive. Dealer is getting the props reconditioned and sent back to me. It just needs a little love, some detailing.

MBW,

Try Flounder Pounder Marine for the gauges and trim piece: fpmarine.com. I would give them a call for the trim piece as I believe they can reproduce it. I believe several board members have purchased new, laser cut dash panels from them and were happy with the final product. You can also try your local dealer for the gauges. They will probably tell you the trim piece is no longer available.

Nice boat, by the way. Your 240 has the Executive Series package, which included stainless winshield and bimini frames.

You may already know this, if not, you will need a Bravo 3 prop wrench to install the forward propeller. I hope you are able to enjoy a couple of more weekends on the water before it is time to winterize the engine. It would also be a good time to have the impeller replaced if you do not know its age.

Thanks SeaRide! They replaced the impeller and a lot of other things just before I got it. They spent quite a bit of money reconditioning it. Thanks for the info about Executive Series package, I didn't know that.

I spent part of yesterday detailing, got all the carpet stains out, cleaned up some water spots on the stainless, etc. I think once I get the gauges and vinyl fixed up, you wont be able to tell its an older boat.

The motor does have quite a few hours on it, ~650, but the dealer had a full history of all its maintenance and history. I runs perfectly. Got it up to near 50 (didnt check gps) and its right at 5k rpm. Temp and everything looks great.

Were the 240 (or 220/230) Select models more rare, or I should say, less popular, than the sun decks? It seems like it is hard to find much information, threads, etc about 240 select.

I recently learned that Select became SLX in later years? 2007? Is that correct?

As for the prop, I wont put it on myself, I will have it put on by a dealer when I summerize it. Its already winterized. The dealer I bought from threw that in the deal. We don't have all the gear we need to go out yet anyway and I need to study up and know my boat before I use it. I like to do my research.

Looks real nice! Welcome to CSR. The folks here will prove to be a great resource for questions you may have. I have recieved alot of excellent advise pertaining to my boat, it's been very helpful and for that I'm grateful.

Any feedback on the crap on the hull? (bump)

First - congrats on the boat!

Is it crap on the hull - or is the hull worn through the gel-coat to the fibreglass?

The outer skin of your boat contains the colour and is the "coat" before the fibreglass - and behind it is many layers of semi transparent fibreglass. If the gel-coat is worn through you need to get someone to fix it right as the raw fibreglass is not as water resistant as the gel-coat itself.

So IF it is the fibreglass showing - you need 2 things. First you need someone with a moisture meter to measure if there is any water in the fibreglass. Then you need a really good fibreglass guy/girl to apply new layers of gel-coat - or other protective layers where you have the issues. A really really good fibreglass guy/girl will have the tools to measure for moisture.

I don't wan't to alarm you if it is nothing - but get a specialist to look at it. And after that ask the seller what happened to make the fibreglass show. When you know more - there are a few ways to go. But until you get an expert opinion - keep it dry.

Thanks kaz911, I am pretty sure it is just junk, but it is very hard. I used some hull cleaner on it yesterday and it didnt do much, but a little time with a medium pad and a DA took some off. So, I think it just needs cleaned up. The bottom looks good otherwise.

I am new to boats so I dont know yet how to best work with the gel coat and what types of lake crud look like.
