My 16,000 BTU Aft AC Unit Crapped Out

I agree with you about that Saverio. I pulled the circuit board a few hours ago and checked out the printed circuitry. Power (120 Volts) comes onto the board, goes through a fuse, then to the triac and back to the terminal strip to the AC water pump. My pump runs continuously, so that makes me think that the triac is defective. When the thermostats are satisfied, the triac should open up and shut off the pump. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have one question. Where is that board getting its power from? From what I can see, it only has power in and motors out, so the board basically is staging up the start when it has power, and power would have to be removed from the 120v input to turn it off. In other words, if you have things not shutting off, that board shouldn't be the culprit. There has to be another piece of the puzzle here that tells things to turn on and off.

I've repaired a fair number of power supply boards over the years and have to agree with your plan. I would test the triac - MT1 and MT2 are probably shorted through the gate allowing for constant power to go through, hence your pump is always on. Simple fix, less than $5.

Well, I went hunting for a triac for my control box circuit board today and everyone laughed at me. One shop said that he had not seen a triac since working on a micro-wave oven some 30 years ago. Somebody has to sell these parts!!

Good luck with that. Seriously give that guy a call in FL see if he will repair it. I mean if you can't find one. This is BS they want you to buy new. I feel your pain. Here is another idea, call Tom @ http://www.flagshipmarine.com/ he has been very helpful over the years with me.

Thanx for the leads Mike. One would think that I would be able to find a $2.00 part somewhere though. Although the cost of a new circuit board is way over-priced, it is not always about the money ... I was kinda looking forward to having the satisfaction of making the repair on my own.

No surprise... Use ebay, or Amazon.
