Music thread - best guitar solo

Many greats mentioned. There is so much great music and great solos, just cannot be one, or even just a few, as that would leave deserving artists out.

I can tell you this, not much coming from the 2000's on.

One exception, Joe Bonamassa...

If you do not know him, look him up, opened for BB King at age 12.

MM
Until recently a friend of mine was the front of house sound engineer for Joe B...

David Gilmour is one of my favorites. Both his Pink Floyd and solo stuff is amazing!

I know my choices aren't technical, but I'll take a shot. There are too many.

Riffs

  • T. Rex = 20th Century Boy (love the basic bending riff in that song)
  • The Hollies = Long Cool Woman (intro is one of my favorite riffs)
  • Ratt = Lay it Down (I'm actually learning the intro/chorus now - pretty difficult, but another favorite riff when I started guitar in the 80's and was a teen)
  • Jimmi Hendrix = Hey Joe (love the intro - also one of my favorite leads)
  • Kiss = God of Thunder (great fat intro - one of my favorite songs as a kid owning Double Platinum)
  • AC/DC = Highway to Hell (c'mon, who doesn't like or know that riff - iconic? My 15 year old even knows the song)
  • Van Halen = Unchained (made me buy a Phaser)
  • Ozzy Osborne = Bark at the Moon ( Jake E. Lee's riff is awesome IMO)
  • Led Zeppelin = Wanton Song

Leads
  • Van Halen = Eruption (as many have already stated - I pretty much like all of Eddie's work)
  • Ozzy Osborn = Over the Mountain ( great lead - sounds like Randy is going to break the string with that bend/hammer-on)
  • White Stripes - Ball and a Biscuit ( I just like it)
  • SRV = Little Wing (probably already mentioned)
  • Led Zeppelin = Since I've been Loving You
  • AC/DC = Ride-On
You can see I prefer hard rock....and seeing as I suck at lead, I like riffs.

I like some of Zac Wylde's work too. This may be a little hard on the ears for some of you, but he tears this up.

LOL - I forgot about him and this song!!! Cool vid - brings me back to CA in the 80's and KNAC.

Guy's like him and Yngwie were the reason I focused more on riffs and trying to write songs :D

Thanks, checked it out, they did a super nice job with it.

Yeah, it was a pretty clinical cover, but it's really tough to trump those guys. I'm a huge Rush fan, so any covers of theirs gets my hackles up a bit.

Same here, love Rush. Didn’t want to sound critical of the cover, they did do well even though Rush is a particularly tough act to follow. No matter how great the guitar solo, the absence of Neil Peart is felt.
