Muddauber, "Dirtdauber" Solutions

Used to have minor problems with them, but since I installed a full mooring cover over the cockpit the boat's totally enclosed- no place for 'em to get in to build their nests now.

Give em some time, I'm sure they will find a way in.

Nothing personal but, I live in the Southeast and the dirtdaubers, love bugs, several varieties of wasps, yellow jackets, hornets and boating 12 months a year are far better than all that white stuff you have up there.

So your saying that you need to get on an airplane or drive hours to go down hill skiing? I feel your pain.

That is correct and I kinda like it that way. I do like to go play in it but really do not want to live in it. I can get to it in a day by car.

Just calling your bluff... A day drive from GA gets you where? Sitting here safely ensconced in VT, the boat is still just over 3 months from launch, but the family season passes at Sugarbush (40 minutes away) are getting used hard! It's great to wake up at home, have a wam breakfast, hit the road, and still cut firsts. All's well, except for my youngest son who wanted to become a knuckle dragger this year... damn snow boards! Mayflies!!? Bring em!! Hex is a great hot summer smallmouth bite on the Lake, and we fish the rivers all season on fly!! Yellow jackets? They took over the trailer tubes when we had the 210 and it was great drowning them when we launched or retrieved. Hate em!

Hey TUna, I won't make it to Vermont but I know I can be well into Pa in less than 12 hrs, for my skills I can find plenty of places to ski. We gonna have to be careful we don't hijack this thread.

Have you been here? www.mtbohemia.com
People come from all over to ski this.

No. I wouldn't even try it as it's too advanced. Very cool spot however. We do have an occasional muddauber to keep this OT. I believe I've seen one nest in the past 32 years here.

I'll take the snow over the humidity. Besides, you can't downhill ski on the bugs right? It's a real bummer when you have 5 resorts nearby and can't decide which one to ski. There were periods of time when skiing 60 times a year was not uncommon. I've scaled back a bit. Now at the end of ski season or boating season I have something to look forward too. If I could ski or boat year round, I don't think I'd appreciate either nearly as much!

Next time you see a bunch of yellow jackets or muddaubers, grab your wife's hairspray! I used a whole can of hairspray going house to house to see if I could kill their yellow jackets! When they fly through the hairspray it knocks them out of the air. It's hilarious and a real hoot! I look forward to yellow jackets each year!

The good skiing starts 60 miles north and gets better from there.

Thats right, bearing roughly 358 deg and heading north for about 25000 miles should put you close to the rockies

Having been raised and lived almost most of my life on the West Coast, I have to agree about the humidity. It is one of the things I will never get used to.

However, the humidty is mostly a concern during August/Sept usually, and that is boating season, and we get in the water. it is a reason to go boating..to cool down..

Bugs are a little worse than the West coast, but nothing major from what I can see after living in TN for over 20 years. A few times I have seen the Cecadas (sp) and that was scary. Thousands of bugs flying out of the ground in a 48 hr time frame. Once every 15 years or something like that. I actually have more problem with migratory birds than insects. Sh*T everwhere while they roost on my poperty as they head south.

Snow and Cold? Not interested. Constant Rain/Grey Skies was bad enough for me in PNW. I learned to Ski at Snoqualamie Pass. If I want to Ski, then I will go where there is snow, but I want no part of living in it.

What is good is that we all enjoy the locations that we choose to live in. I am not sure there is a "perfect" place on earth for everybody. Anything real cold is not for me, and I am certain of that.

I think that's when you stick your arm into a hole in the muddy bank and come out with a catfish attached up to your elbow?????

no..that would be 'noodling'.... an Okie thing :smt009

quick story on that.. guy across the cove from us just seemed always kind of strange.. I found out just a few weeks ago he damned near died 'noodling'. A big cat got a hold of him and took him down. Brain damage from almost drowning. Sounds like fun huh?

I'm sure your right, but you get the point, I think.

Skiing in Mich can't be much better than here in NC or WV. Maybe a little longer season and slighly better snow conditions but the vertical I would guess is roughly the same. Anyhow, thats exactly why I fly out Monday morn for a week of real skiing in Seamboat Springs
