Well our 340 arrived in Orange Beach, Alabama yesterday. It will be dry stored at Barber Marina. We are excited to cruise new waters this year and meeting new friends. Since it is a seven-hour drive to the boat we will spend a week on board each trip. I am semi retired it is no big deal. It is our “condo” on the coast.
This week it will get a new bottom job and washed and waxed.

Life is good.

Wow...pretty area down there. Also interesting that a boat that big can be drystored. Throw some pics at us when you can.

You're going to love it done there! I'm about 30 water miles west of there near Fort Morgan. If the wind is out of the north, then going out into the Gulf is a very pleasant experience. Rule of thumb- each 5mph wind will generate 1 foot of sea. If it is from the south, then go west in the ICW to Mobile Bay where it will be lake smooth. Just stay 200 yards away from shore in Mobile bay as the entire perimeter is 2-3 feet deep for the first 100 to 200 yards then drops abruptly to 8-9 feet where it stays. In the ICW it is 13ft and the Mobile ship channel is 50 ft. If you venture past Fort Morgan toward Mississippi, STAY IN THE ICW CHANNEL! That area between Dauphin Island and the mainland (5 miles wide!) is very shallow all the way and the ICW is the only place deep enough to cruise- found this out the hard way. Another great trip from Orange Beach is to go east towards Pensacola, about 10-12 miles, where the NAS is. When the Blues Angels practice or put on a show, a boat is the best seat in the house.

Thanks Doco, we will be exploring the area and hope to run into you. Our boat name is the “ WILD RICE”. We need to see the Dog River and Dolphin Island.

Scott, John Wilson of Wilson Automotive in Foley, Alabama did the haul with the radar arch up. With the radar and light off we were 13’ 9” high. His trailer is very low and a goose neck.

Love Orange Beach and the Mobile Bay area. Beautiful and the Ruby Reds cannot be beat!

Enjoy!

Hi Vince,

What was his charge per mile roughly?

Round trip for him was about 16.5 hours driving. The round trip mileage was about 880 miles. He bought oversize permits in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, about $140.00. I took almost 4 hours to load the boat and remove the radar and other fixtures on the arch. Plus he must replace these items at the destination. He probably burned about $250.00 in diesel. This cost me $2,000.00.

Congrats! Welcome to some of the best boating waters in the country. My wife and I enjoy trips to the Wharf at Orange Beach. Its a nice ride to Pensacola from there, so make sure you mark your calendar as others have said for the Blue Angel homecoming airshow.

Tons of great little places in Pensacola to dock and eat, also. Between Pensacola and Perdido Key you have Tacky Jacks, The Oyster Bar at Perdido Key (come on any Friday and you'll see my buddy and I playing guitar 6-10pm!), the Oar House, and Flippers.

Fuel stops are all over. We use Holiday Harbor Marina and the Oyster Bar, also. It has a marina with fuel and can accomodate large boats. See you out there!

Thanks Dan. We have been there a year now. We love the water and the boating. We will look for you. We dry store at Barber Marina. You pass Barber when going to the Warf. Barber is on the North Shore.

We have been to the Oar House and Flippers.
Great! The wife and I also like pulling into Cafe Grazie for dinner.

See you on the water. We mostly beach at Sand Island by the NAS marina at Sherman Cove.

If you see a ton of boats out there, swing on through. Half the guys in the squadron have boats. We think we are now the third largest navy in the world.

When you pull out of Sherman Cove go south and around behind Robertson Island. We anchor back there. We swim to the sand dunes and cross them to the Gulf side.

I think we found every sand bar from Ono Island to Fort Morgan when we first started running down there. We usually take the CC out when we are there or my buddy has a 38 Fountain in Pensicola that we run most of the time. You can't miss the Fountain very loud very white....My condo is just past the entrance to Ono on left "Ole River". Very close to Flora-Bama. There is a resturant I have been wanting to go to in Pensicola I can't remember the name I know going east on 182 you turn right at Interarity Point (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). How is Barber I have never checked that place out.
