Has anyone successfully mounted a HD sonar (fishfinder) transducer (such as Lowrance/Simrad Structure Scan or Total Scan) on the transom of a twin engine inboard boat? If so, where was it installed in order to operate with the best performance?

I am looking at installing a Simrad GO9 display and have been advised by marine electronics salesmen that these HD electronics require a transom mounted transducer and thru-hull transducers are not available.

I have searched for similar threads and only located one from 2012 that went unanswered.

I don’t know that a transom mounted transducer would work on a boat with v-drive inboards. The props would be in front and the disturbance would mess up the signal. That being said, i am no expert! With outboard engines, the transom mount works great, since the water has not gone through the props just yet.

I mounted a Lorance transducer for a Hook 9 on the port side of center on the transom on my twins. It was close to where the other transducer was mounted for the original fishfinder. I am not sure if it works well as it seemed to be a bit streaky on the fish finder screen but that could of been because it may of had crud on it from setting in the slip for three weeks. I believe that is where the instructions said it should be mounted, it has been awhile since I did the install. I will look for the instructions and see if I can confirm what it says. What you will see is snow on the screen if there is to much turbalance.
I haven't had the boat in the water since then been working on it almost non stop in front of the house, perhaps in the spring.

I would ask other electronic sales people for their input. As a rule inboards require thru hulls transducers to work properly. Maybe need to switch brands.

I installed a Fishhawk trolling and depth transducer and and had the same question. I ended up installing it here. I also used a "Sternsaver" mount, which I highly recommend.
