I'm tired of my old off the shelf P4. It's loud, sucks power and takes hours to encode video. I found a Q6600 processor for under $200. I know there's computer guys here. Anyone want to recommend a decent motherboard under $200. Any brand hands down better than another?

Biostar makes a good board.

If you are not into tweaking, go Intel. Don't forget that your memory and video card won't work with the new hardware. You may need a new PSU as well.

I have personal and professional experience with both Intel and Tyan boards. They're fine, but for my money, any motherboard with a Mac wrapped around it is ideal.

I'm not into gaming so no overclocking. I probably should have stuck with Intel but found an MSI P35 Platinum on ebay for $100. I built my last pc with vastly older technology (7 years ago). PC architecture has gotten a little confusing. So far I have the Q6600, the MSI motherboard, WD 500GB hard drive, and EVGA 8600GT vid card, all on ebay. I'm up in the air on a PSU and case. I can't find reliable info on wattages for these components. Think a 500W psu is enough? I'd like a quiet case under $100. Thanks for any info.

BTW I'm posting this here because it seems like the pc forums are filled with 15 year olds who will recommend something just because their system will run the latest games. I want reliability, multi-tasking and low noise level.
