Hello,

Just want to announce that I have started a group for Monroe Lake boaters. Plan raft-ups, get togethers, share info about the lake and marinas, or just stop by and say hello.

The group can be accessed in the community section. The group name is Monroe Lake Indiana Boaters.

Gonna be out Labor Day weekend
probably on the hook near Moores Creek in the evenings.

Wow, great to see that Lake Monroe has it's very own area here. Will be even better when there is more activity...

Has the fourwinds went out of business yet? 800-900 boats in the marina and they never would put a dime into the place. It was a shame.

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Even if they could do something about the nasty things, I'm not sure anyone would. It was also the spider capitol of the world. Hmmm...maybe we're on to something there...

Fourwinds is still in business. They actually started a huge remodel this year finally. Fourwinds used to do a great business back in the days when Indiana University basketball attracted national crowds. I actually met Dick Vitale in the lobby prior to a game I was attending. They had a lot of people stay there for games during the off season which really helped. One of their biggest issues is the state (DNR) takes a huge percentage right off the top line rather than a portion of the profit. Perhaps the remodel and resurgence of IU basketball will help bring them back. Slip costs are still through the roof. I think they have the highest cost for slips in a five (maybe more) state area.

We went to the lake last Sunday to take our dog for a walk. The lake is up a few feet from summer levels but nowhere near flood stage. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will let us get a full season of boating this year.

Any Monroe-ites know Zucherbach Lady, a green '87 300 dancer on J dock (last I remember)?

For those of you wondering about Fourwinds at Lake Monroe, I have a little update. Went down to check my boat a couple of weeks ago and took a walk around the resort. Looks like they are giving it a complete overhaul which it MORE than desperately needed. The lobby was closed when I was there as I guess they are revamping it as well. From what I could see, they are doing the rooms too. The restaurant should have an unobstructed view of the lake now as they removed the unsightly patio and evergreens that surrounded it. In a few months and just in time for boating season, Fourwinds just may have that luster it once had. <fingers crossed>

I went around Monroe on my motorcycle Sunday. I noticed several boats out on the lake. Anyone on this board lucky enough to be enjoying the lake with the great spring weather we have had?

Yeah, I'm a Monroe guy. Was there two weeks ago. Water was still several feet above summer pool. Saw a bowrider tearing it up at Paynetown, and two bass boats at Fairfax. Lots of families at the campgrounds, and a group of college students relaxing on the (deserted) ramp watching the sunset. Was a beautiful day. And yes, the hotel/resort has been under renovation for 3 years now. The indoor pool is gone. They incorporated it into the old outdoor pool and it looks really nice. They took down the wall of glass to accomplish this. The beach is still a mess. They never even bothered to thatch the roofs of the tiki huts last year. And idiots would drag the picnic tables out into the water during the summer and leave them there. The enforcement of rules/laws is a little lax in my opinion, but overall, I think the management is trying to make some real improvements to the property. This season should be very telling.

They're POORING money into the hotel. I still think they should reward the oldest supporters and grandfather their slip rates. I'm looking at mooring a boat there this year but man...the rates are huge. I grew up on Lake Monroe when the hotel was nice, the pool was nice and the bar was hopping. By the time I was old enough to join the fun, it was in shambles. I do hope they bring it back but they really should reward the long term customers.

the only thing 4winds is good for is atmosphere
and that's not great...wayyyy overpriced IMO

Back when I was there they had a member card with different levels (discounts) based on years being a slipholder. That was '95ish. It was still way over priced then and a poor excuse for a marina service-wise and amenity-wise. I hope the new owners/investors have some marina-running experience.
