Hello All,,, The flame arrestor cover on my engine has a decal that says SRX7.4L I found a chart that says SeaRay used a SRX7.4L (454 Mag Alpha) ,and a SRX7.4L-H (454 Mag Bravo) in 1988.
Does anyone know the differences in these 2 motors?
Is it a 330HP. motor?

There was also a 7.4L Bravo used by MerCruiser, 1988-1991..

Just trying to find some more info on these motors,,Thanks

There should be some serial numbers on that flame arrester as well?

One for the engine.

I did a search with my motor S/N to find the maintenance manual with all the spec's.

I have read that to ,,,but I am just trying to figure what the main differences were from the Mag Alpha to the Mag Bravo motor.

Could it possibly be an indicator of the outdrive model? Seems almost too simple but there are Alpha and Bravo outdrives, very common. Though I'm not sure the Alpha was used on bigblocks? Just a thought...

The Alpha Drive was used on my model for 2 yrs..And I happened to buy a boat that has it.
Wish I knew what I do now ,,last Fall !!!

I would bet that the HP on the Alpha model is tuned down and the Bravo model is tuned up.

That could be just what they did,,since they found out they made a mistake with that package!!!

:: Update ::
I found a Service Bulletin that explained my questions.
In 1988-89 MerCruiser made afew different power packages for SeaRay using the 7.4 Magnum.

7.4SRX is V-8/454 CID/2 Bolt Main/Alpha Drive
7.4SRB is V-8/454 CID/2 Bolt Main/Bravo Drive
7.4SRX-H is V-8/454 CID/4 Bolt Main/Bravo Drive

Guy had a Bayliner 26 footer with the Alpha One / 454 at our dock. The only positive I could see was with the Aluminum prop did not have the corrosion issues we had with our B III’s.

I sure wish I had done some research before I boat this boat last fall,,,but I will run it this summer, then trade it for a 27ft Pachanga with Bravo drives.
