Michigan Harbors

Coming from the Detroit River. Any tips on how to navigate the tip of the thumb? We were going to try to stay in the freighter channel for as long as we could before we cut across the bay.

That should work fine, stay away from the lighthouse as there are large submerged (and not so submerged) boulders there ,i meen big as a house.Check local notice to mariners website too.I think all obstructions are charted pretty well.If you decide to go into port austin stay in the marked channel inside the breakwall, also call ahead to see if they are even open yet as they have been rebuilding the whole dock system there ,i hope it is completed as we love port austin for a few days of biking walking and r&r.Glen PS: let us know when you are going mabey you wont be the only one there.

Thanks for the heads up. Will probably stop at Port Sanilac or Harbor Beach for at least a refuel.

Be very careful when you're in Huron or Michigan they are both at least 20" down still and that's everywhere people they are the same body of water!!! We are going to check our depth in the slip this weekend before they dip the boat God I hope they dredged deep enough.

How is everybody going to get down to there boat this year? I'm looking at 7 feet down to the water.

We're either looking into a parachute , or one of those pool slides that drop your butt right on to the aft deck, don't know how we can maintain a good grip on the groceries using the slide though.

it's not as bad up here but we use an aluminum swim ladder mounted on the dock. Lower half lifts up for the winter. Works nice, even if only a few steps are needed.

Yeah we are getting floods in saginaw today and tomorrow, things are looking up for michigan boaters. The levels in the rivers and streams were still in the receeding process from last week and today should bring them up to flood stage,i see northwood univ.is being evacuated already.

They said on the radio that all of this rain would not help the lake levels, WTF? Somebody please put the cork in.

Where you at KC were I've in Lake Michigan near Muskegon ????

Munising - Lake Superior. Fortunately for us they are limiting our drop at the Soo. It's about half of your loss.

That new "fracking" process for oil going on down-state probably does not help either. Little here, little there, it all adds up.

Must be a defect in the thermometer. Gore said it's global warming.

I just had to go put buckets on my tomato plants, jeeze o petes.

We ran down west side of Lake Michigan yesterday in flat water!. Highest average water temp found 47 degrees tops. In Port it air temp was 68 before the North blow. Flags went taught at 3:30pm and the showed her white side. Tied off at dock in MKE safe and sound. With the heat on that is!

Buckle down and crank that heat we store 2 ceramic heaters on board incase the boat heaters can't find warm water like what you're in now, be safety friend!!!

Going up to Muskegon tonight, wonder if I should take an extra heater.
