Hi all,

I was at the mercury dealer and he was working on my boat using Mercury
G3 software. He showed me the vast amount of things he could setup and diagnose
using this.
I contacted Mercury and they said that only dealers are allowed to buy this.
That is crap. My mechanic said that every boat sold with DTS should have this software
to do a quick diagnosis..ie. My electronic compass is out and to calibrate it would require
the G3 software I am told. My mechanic said this would be a 2 hour charge at $115 hour.
Anybody know where you could buy an older version of G3?
I know Mercury will sell the cable adapter for the computer hookup for the G3.
Thanks

The 2 channel CAN bus interface from Kvaser (OEM'ed by Mercury) is approximately $800 and you'll need an additional harness adapter that's about $50.

Your heading sensor is actually a Maretron SSC200 (or SSC300). You can find the docs (including how to calibrate it) on Maretron's site. It's actually a NMEA 2K-capable device that's converted to SmartCraft by an inline adapter. Depending on your industriousness and technical experience, you can calibrate it via NMEA 2K using available software tools.

However, your time investment will likely exceed the 2 x $115 rate the Merc mechanic quoted you...

Hi,
Yes the compass I can do myself without the software..just an example of what it could be used for.
I know that the software is expensive, but it is something I would like to have.

Indeed, I would like to have it, too...

Unfortunately, the current CDS G3 versions require a valid license key along with a valid dealer id (number + address). And, at least with the current software release, this information is re-validated via the net every 45 days. Once it fails validation, you have one 5-day grace period and then it stops working.

Perhaps you can find an older version that pre-dates this ongoing validation...

Yes, Was aware of the 45 day validation and dealer id #..Just as you said I was hoping to find
an older version previous to the newest version 1.7 ........
