Mercruiser Smart Gauge Transducer replaced, alarm still beeping, need help

I have a 2005 240 Searay Sundeck with a Mercruiser Smart Gauge. 5.0 MPI BRAVO 3R, serial # OW063935. The Transducer was no longer working, or so I thought. It is a through the hull that also measures sea temp. Sea temp and depth was no longer working on the smart gauge, version 3.4. I did a reset of the gauge many times. Boat runs fine but the alarm sounds with two beeps about every three minutes and the AL flashes on the gauge. Bought a new transducer, installed it and still have the same problem, no reading of the two items mentioned and still beeping. Now I am wondering if the transducer was bad or if it could be something else. Looking for suggestions. Stumped and frustrated. :smt021

I don't know much about the smart gauge configuration, but I know it's the same for vessel views that use it, you have to ensure the device is reading off the correct channel.
