mercruiser/ searay is a bitch ?

What is it that makes the crusader's far superior? Delco? They are not popular in this area. The Kodiaks stand up well on the rivers here in the jet boat world.

OP has unrealistic expectations.

i know and accept wear as well the need to fix something on a boat . i would have not said anything if we talk replacing a faucet , the showersump pump or fixing the canvas.

i also know a boat that size is limited in open water and a good weather planning is needed. no problem .

in fact i,m pretty sure no searay , bayliner or whatever of this brand would take a serious beating in open salt regardless of size . its not an open sea offshore trawler. thats also not the point.

reliability and lack if confidence kills my love .

it cannot be she always wrecks with big parts leaving you stranded with little options and going out is more fear than fun what breaks down next due to some systems so awfully weak designed.

thanks el capitan and others again for hints what brand is right for our boating style

You guys are amazingly patient.

My last boat was a real PITA the entire time I owned it with one problem after another, but it was clear that a lack of maintenance in it’s past was at the root of it all.

While I came to dread the thing I never developed a hatred for the Chris Craft brand. I’d own another in a minute.

My current boat is an older Sea Ray and up to this point I was never a Sea Ray guy for no particular reason. I’m still impressed with the build quality and fit and finish of things and have very few minor criticisms.

Nothing’s perfect, but aerobat has checked out of his boat mentally and no amount of statistics will change that. Move on to something that doesn’t ruin your life, learn the subtleties of its needs and enjoy it.

The cooling system setup. Larger heat exchanger which also cools the ex manifolds so no salt water runs though them as they are coolant cooled and not salt water cooled.

I’ll add that at 37 years old it’s amazing how many of the hundreds or thousands of original components and miles of wire and plumbing are still perfectly functional with only a minor repair required here and there.

The Mercruiser engines run like a pair of watches and basic maintenance should keep them that way barring any catastrophes.

You must of added that, that's not how they came.

Mine did but they’re 7.4s.

The only raw water in my system(s) is in the oil coolers, the heat exchangers and the risers.

Manifolds like the block are full of Dex Cool.

Same here. My engines are 3 years old. Came as a complete package from Mercruiser.

Crusader engines are far superior to all mercruiser platforms even though they all are Chevy blocks.

This is undisputed in the industry.

Lastly, failures are most often in the peripheral systems not the blocks themselves.

For the novices, simply look at them. Tells much of the story.

Seriously?

I have actually rebuilt both. Regardless of what you may read in on-line forums there is very little difference in the base engines. The part numbers are the same on the castings. Both companies used GM truck base blocks. Some had two bolt versus four bolt mains. The intake manifold was GM as most of the bolt ons. 95% of a Crusader build parts list is interchangeable with a Mercruiser. The Crusader was a good engine but to say somehow it is magically superior to a Mercruiser engine is silly. Feel free to quote Pascoe.....in my opinion....he has never rebuilt an engine and wouldn't know one engine part from another.

The only systems I would give an edge to was the exhaust manifolds and heat exchanger. Crusader did a better design job on those systems.

So you post up a pic of a non 8.1 engine and your engine number is top secret. I get it.

I posted a pic from Mercruiser. It’s what they used to show a closed cooling system, which is what is sitting in my engine room (X2).

My engines came “fully dressed” and ready to drop in.

Sorry you can’t accept that.

And with that, I’m done with your asinine bullshit, once again.

Just hit “ignore” button and you won’t see these morons’ post replies.
Works great for me. :D

Guys!

I thought this was a thread about bashing SeaRay/Mercury/Brunswick, not each other!
