Hello, I am new to this forum and pardon my ignorance to the rules or if this is/has been a question in the past but I recently bought a 2005 - 220 Sundeck /Mercuiser 5.0 mpi w/bra 3 outdrive and have only had it out in he water 4 times and the last 2 times the engine stalled after only idling for a few minutes and wouldn't start back up. I even had to be towed in once. Is there someone out there that can possibly give me a reason or solution as to what is happening to my boat? I had it inspected by a engine mechanic prior purchase and was told that it was a great engine and that everything was good. Anybody else had this problem? Is there a simple fix to this problem? Thanks!

Hi, I had a similar issue and it was the IAC Valve. Codes would help determine the actual issue. I recently saw one on here for sale. If that one is not available, I have one.

I would say try the IAC valve. It's an easy item to diag and a common issue. I carry a spare on the boat.

Thanks for your help , I will give that a try.

we are going to need a lot more details before we can offer help.....there are MANY things that can cause this....your description is pretty vague...this could be caused by a fuel related problem or an ignition related problem.....

my suggestion would be to start with a full tune-up of the engine to see if this helps.....

this includes:
- spark plugs
- spark plug and coil wires
- distributor cap
- distributor rotor button
- distributor ignition sensor
- ignition coil (optional)
- fuel/water filter
- clean flame arrestor
- fuel injector cleaner (i.e. Seafoam) in gas tank
- fresh fuel (non-ethanol if available)

if you sill have issues after tune-up post back with as much info as you can about the symptoms and what you have done to correct it and someone here can help....

good luck....

Hello,
I feel your pain. Ive been towed in by SeaTow also. Same engine as you. 5.0 MPI B3. My issue was a worn water pump. Here in Tampa Bay the water is shallow. You run through shallow water a few times and you ingest sand into the water pump.. My impeller was shredded when I finally pulled the pump off and looked at it.

I have the same problem. My 2007 350 Mercruiser would run for 45 min then stall. after letting it cool down it would start again and run for another 45min then stall or run like the choke has been opened . The engine would run as if only 2 cylinders were working, as soon as I increase the idle it would stall. Ive replaced the fuel pump fuel filter distributer and distributer cap. It still has the same problem only stalls after it has warmed up, I'm at a lost to what is going on, any help or advise would be great.
