Merc 4000 control handle, gen II on a gen I

Good morning, recently purchased a 2002 220 bowrider. The shift/throttle control works good but they handle is a little tore up and the switch is kind of sticky. The question I still have after researching till I’m blue in the face is I know the GEN one handle is obsolete, will a GEN II handle fit on a GEN I control base? Just looking at options rather than spend a ton of money to upgrade to the Gen II and the gen II cables to go with it just for a better looking handle. Anyone have any info? Thanks!

Yes kinda, mine is pistol grip though so the latch is different, didn’t know if anyone knew if the gen 2 handle fits gen 1 housing or not, thought Id ask. Thanks for your help!
