I'm second guessing myself on what constitutes the "on" position for the fuel shut off valves feeding the engines. There is an arrow inscribed on the knob and I need to know if the arrow, when pointed away from the tank and toward the engine is the "on" position or does the arrow need to point toward the "on" position. Sounds strange, but when arrow is pointing toward the engines it is actually pointing to the word "off". Hope I haven't confused you. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Not sure of your set-up (pics would help) but, if there is an indicator (arrow) and on/off markings - where the arrow points is the correct location (unless someone inverted the handle). Standard shut-off valves are "open" when the valve "wings" are in line with the fuel -line (if they are perpendicular - across - the fuel line the flow is shut-off. Hope this helps. - Jeff

This is a picture of my fuel solenoid. When the arrow is pointing down (as shown in the picture) it shuts off the flow of fuel on my boat. When the arrow is pointed to the right, then the fuel flow is on. Your set up is probably similar.

Thanks much Dave and JPK for your input and quick response. Raining pretty hard here so won't get to engine room til tomorrow. If I may, one more question which may be helpful for me: Open - clockwise or counterclockwise? Thx again.

With the arrow in the down (off) position, turn it counterclockwise until it is pointing to the right and the line will be open.

Dave - I had my arrow pointing away from the fuel tank and attempted to start motor. However, she wouldn't turn over. Is it possible that I may have disrupted the vacuum when changing the fuel filter (w water separator)? I'm thinking that I may have had to fill the replacement filter w gas prior to installation. Grateful for your input.
