I was just looking at the same cockpit table online for our cockpit, did you buy it as unfinished teak?

Yes.... I bought it from the sponsor here ...made in China I think.

So you asked....here is the story.... Bought the table and the wife said it was too thin, she wanted a thicker looking table....so the table was doomed out of the gate. Installed it and oiled it and she didn't like the rings glasses left on it. So she said this thing needs to go.
In the mean time we reupholster the cockpit seating...brand new vinyl all around. Next weekend her sister and husband comes down for the weekend and we are leaving from St Clair going to PIB.... we come out of the Detroit River into Erie and if you know the spot it can get really sloppy on a bad day.... it was sloppy ….6' crap. Waves were breaking over the aft side and hitting the table and washing off onto the cockpit seats and taking the oil with it and going on the seats....so we had the yellow oil all over the aft bench seat... She lost her mind. The table had now committed mutiny....if she could have ripped it off and thrown it over board she would have

So I needed to give the table another chance...so I fool around with epoxy painting....and I have a lot of art quality epoxy in the house and decide to seal the table....it looked beautiful all winter for 4 months sitting in the house... a work of art.

When we finally put it on the boat ....with in two hours of being in the sun it turns into this gong show.

So now I am back to convincing my friend to make me one to my wife's specs....He made our salon table....just incredible!!... I invited him for the July 4th weekend to close the deal :)

The teak table is fine...a little flimpsy...but well priced. I am not sure what's going on with the teak....This was top quality oil.... so no reason to wash off... I just don't know.
