Memorial Day weekend 2013 Destination

Just got to the house on Lady's Island from Northern Virginia. Just a reminder to Kendall that the annual Gullah Festival is on the waterfront in Beaufort tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday. So it will be packed with tents and vendors and such.

Bill:

We arrived in Beaufort Friday around 6:00 pm....had a radiator cap issue with my buddies 50 footer that held us up for 3 hours. We left the Downtown Marina docks at 10 am the next morning to catch the falling tide down to Hilton Head so we missed all the festivities but had a great time in HH.

We came through the Ashepoo cut on a rising tide with no issues but before that we had to proceed through Watts cut at extreme low tide (moon). We had maybe one foot of water under us (4' draft) and churned mud all the way through....

Beautiful weather and a nice trip all in all. Timing the tides we were able to idle most of the way at 8-9 knots. Lots of crazy boat traffic coming back into Charleston yesterday!

Sounds like a great time and all went well. Saturday was one of the more crowded boating days around here. I took a drive from Beaufort to Hilton Head that day and every boat ramp was overflowing, and this was at noon. Climate was perfect for it. Good temperature and calm winds on Sat/Sun. Went to Skull Creek Boathouse and back via the ICW in the 175 Sport this afternoon. Got tossed around a lot in that little thing. Much more wind and current today.

No boating for me.

My son and I sold over $5000.00 worth of Pizza by the slice at a concert at the Raymond James Stadium.
It was madness.
Taking the whole family to Disneyland for 3 days with the money at the end of June.

And with whatevers left over, I'll get a new Bimini Top and and onboard charger.

We worked 17 hours straight. Ran out of pizza 5 times, and as soon as my staff walked through the gates we were swarmed by people. The other venders did horrible.

Thing is this was my first time doing the event and with only a week notice I wasn't too optimistic. But my friends set up the concert and asked if I wanted to be a vendor. I said sure, but I was just hoping to break even. Didn't really think much into the demographics of the crowd, of which was over 30,000 high school and college kids. Pizza is there food of choice, and at $3.00 a slice we were the cheapest source of food there. I got $18.00 for a Large pizza. That's 3x what I sell them for at my store. It was 100% profit.

Friends kept coming by and asking if I was making money. I told them ask me again at the end of the night. LOL

When I play blackjack in Vegas, I often split 10's if the dealer has a 6. I get extremely evil looks from people at the tables. I got those same looks from all the other venders that day.

My body hurt so bad at the end of the night, I could barley climb into my Jeep to leave. I felt soooo old. It made me feel better when my 15 year old son laid on the ground and complained how bad his body hurt too!

Next year it's going to be a 2 day event. I might buy another boat....

Here's a video just after they opened the gates at 12:30. There were 4 stages playing music at the same time.

SORRY!
Had to swap out the first video because of language. It's safe now. But you can see more vids on YouTube at sunset music festival 2013.

Did I mention it was all ca$h???

General admission was $75-$100 per person. If you think I did well, multiply that by 100 and that's what my buddy who through the event took home. And he had partners...

Thats pretty bad! You will have to post an updated pic once he does something more with it.
Been a while since he did anything, but there is a "graphics package" now! Just took these shots this week.
