Memorial Day trip to Port Lucaya

Google XM MARINE WEATHER then go to Data Pricing 18th item going down. Its $49.00 a month but IMHO well worth during the Summer Cruising. You can get plans from about $10.00 dollars up to the Master Mariner for around $50.00. I usually turn it on around May and back off in late Sept. I would not go to the Bahamas without it. I have found it to be spot on. Wave ht, direction etc... Another thing I really like about it is tracking squalls. Shows lighting and direction of storm. You dont have to have it to cross but it sure does give you piece of mind. JC

Got our confirmation back from Port Lucaya. We are hoping to be there the 21st through the 25th.

Hey Randy, We think Sailfish Marina at the St. Lucie inlet. I have not made our reservations there because we would like to start across from Del Ray with you guys, but that may be too long of a day. This also depends on earthmover17 who said he will be with us.

If not, we can cut an early angle and meet you guys before you get too far on the 21st.

Just so you know, I'll be leaving with a group out of Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale). Randy, I believe is leaving out of Boca. We all meet up at the marina in Port Lucaya.
Then we're on island time.

last one to the cave bar is a rotten egg!!!!!!

Ray, who will be in your group? you have at least one boat that is not our CSR list, correct? anyone else? Have you talked to Chad about the trip? I would like to keep the list updated.

How long would it take to get us to get down to where you guys in Delray from the St. Lucie inlet? (ie where you are leaving from?)

It's 60 miles from Boca Inlet to St. Lucie Inlet. Going on the outside would obviously be the fastest, on the inside it is about 25% no-wake zones. It depends on how you like to cruise on the ICW. The last time we went to SLI, we went on the inside and it took about 5.5 hours. we did not go at cruising speed all the time.

check out the document in the attached link. It will give you a pretty good idea of the no-wake zones.

If there are any boaters that have not cruised to the islands, I would suggest you take a minimum number of spare parts and other mechanical items with you. You should also perform a pre-trip check out of your boat prior to the crossing. We have allot of time before we go so any concerns can easily be taken care of. I would be happy to share my check lists with anyone who needs them, just let me know.

Randy

We carry spare filters, oil, coolant, impellers, tools, clamps, screws, ditch kit, and of course duct tape.

Randy, do you think it makes sense to cut east by SE and meet or go down to Boca. These reason I ask is because we would definately need an extra day on each side to head down to Boca.

After thinking about it and since you have at least one other boat going with you, I would head right over to Port Lucaya from St.Lucie Inlet. It's about 105 miles vs 60 to get to Boca, then another 90 to get to PL. Having said that, we would love for you to join our group at Boca and if you want to enjoy an extra day of boating from SLI to Boca, great!

Who will be joining you on your boat (and Earthmover)? will this be a family thing?

Randy

That is what we were thinking. My wife & daughter will be with us. Leaving the old golden retriever home...so sad.

I'm bringing a friend for the crossing as my wife and kids don't do so well in rough seas. Although I am intending on flying them in once we get there. It will be my buddy(55 years young) and my wife and 12 year old boy.
Jack

Jack, Our daughter is 13. They should get along great.

Randy, We have taken her (our golden) to Key West several times. She does great on the boat and when we are there. She grew up from a 6 week old puppy on a boat in Lake Powell and all around Colorado & Wyoming. What I have read is there is some sort of a fee/registration to take her to the bahamas. Is that true?

Hi Jack - glad to hear that you're joining us and we're looking forward to meeting you. Most of the time we've gone (in the summer), the conditions have been good. The seas lay down in the summer months.
