3 days and counting to Port Lucaya

Just looking at the web cams this morning, the wind dropped off and the seas calmed down a bit. Boat is almost packed...are you guys having any room for food? hmmm.....

Just to make sure has everyone paid homage to Triton so we'll have good weather?

I stood on my bow this morning at sunrise and paid homage. I will do the dance this afternoon.

the seas look much better this morning but the NOAA forecast is mixed.

    Hi Skippers:

About now, the adimrals are looking at you with a raised eyebrow and sliently swearing that they've seen the weather and there is no way she's going to get on that boat in the weather that is forecast.

Take heart mateys, this weather will soon pass. Thursday morning may still be a little lumpy, but a first light crossing will be the ticket. Trying to get as much wake behind you as you can before the sun get much above 9:30 is the key.

Friday, the morning passage conditions off shore will be very good, low winds at 3-5knots, seas 1-3 ft.. Mid morning and afternoons the seas will get lumpy do to onshore wind, driven by land heating and those winds will be brisk 10-15knts and seas 3-5ft..

The return on Monday should be excellant.

    Got Fuel?

I like your optimism. As the wind shifts SE to S it should settle pretty quickly. Although using what "should" happen in a boating sentence is always dangerous.

    Looks good for now.

    Guys,

We may be bailing on Jack. we have 5 to 7s til Wednesday. He is heading down now, but we are sitting hoping this will pass on our side.

The kicker in our decision was the formation of the low over cuba. The hurricane center only gives it a 30% chance of cyclone formation, but with my luck....

    I will keep you posted.

Sucks...Packed an now where to go.

I don't know if it helps or not but if you want to delay a day I can probably find a place around FTL for you to tie up Thursday night. Go over Friday AM which looks decent.

It would be great to have a Coloradoan there but I don't blame you for balking at 5-7's. I would too. Anything I can do from here let me know.

    2 days and counting....

Looks like the forecast for Thurs is a little more optimistic today but as we all know that could change quickly. On the webcams seas still look a bit rough at daybreak. If all else fails we can always delay a day and cross on Friday morning as that day is supposed to be real nice. We'll see how things progress.

Hey Ken, Stay the course buddy. If you don't cross the Lake, then take the ICW down to Naples and then its a short hop to the NW Channel at KW. It might be wet in the Naples - KW crossing but not trecherous. Then Thursday, make your run to Lauderdale and cross with US on Friday AM. There are good overnight anchorages in Lauderdale that are close to the Port, stay on the hook for free.

    GD Murphy.

Just a quick update, Marine Max still has my boat torn apart and they're not going to get my VHF installed for me until early next week.

This means, I'll not be traveling over on my boat. Not the end of the world since a couple of you guys (thank you VERY much) were hospitable enough to offer to let me hitch a ride over with you.

My problem is I just called PL and their rooms are booked. Sheesh. Murphy is one tough bastard to beat.

So now I'm wrestling with the notion of just taking my boat anyway (with only my stupid handheld VHF operable) and keeping close to another one of you guys for safety or just riding over and bringing a tent.

Ah, the life of adventure, she be for me.

    I'll keep you all apprised.

The forecast is looking good for Friday.

The Las Olas Marina just north of Chad on the ICW has dock space and mooring balls available. Don't even have to put the anchor down.

Been working on my electronics today and was around the YC all afternoon. Wind blowing 15 at 3Pm, at 9:30 PM zero knots, flags limp!

Its a familiar pattern ... seas and winds flat in the early AM, winds won't come back until 9:30 to 10AM seas offshore right along with the winds. Get 60-70 miles under your keel by 9:00Am and you have a beautiful passage and lovely sunrise.

Has any one heard from our group headed to Freeport this morning ? I don't know if they planed to check in with anyone on the board. I was a bit concerned when I read this forcast for seas between here and Freeport for this morning.

If any one hears from them post the info of their safe arrival.

Hoping they stayed in port until it passes, but I'm sure each captain will make the right call for his/her boat and experience.

I didn't get a go/no go email from them so I assume they went. I was on the beach at 5:45AM and it was too rough for me but at 8:30 it had settled some and I couldn't see the "elephants" on the horizon.

3 of us are shooting for an early departure from PE tomorrow. The weather seems to be bouncing around. I'm going to go and if it's too rough I'll turn around. Looks great on the weekend though.

The Vanguard in the Armada was to leave in the early hours. Ray was to leave PE this am at 5:00AM ... He'd be the first to back track, Randy was leaving at 6:00 AM from Hillboro. He might just slog it out, although his Admiral might give him a stern dressing down if the ride is too nasty.
