Memorial Day trip to Port Lucaya

Can someone post a quick rundown of the plans. Captain meeting, departure/return dates, availability at the marina, kids/no kids, etc.. I realize I'm calling about the party at the 11th hour, but would like to join in the fun if we (wife and/or kids) can make it. I'm in Lighthouse Point and would be either joining the caravan in Ft. Laud or meeting up along the way depending on departure times, etc..

Your boat's too big. LOL It appears we are all leaving the East coast thurs. morning the 21st and most are coming back Mon. the 25th. I will have my kids(21,13) and I know Kens daughter 12 or so will be there too. Randy said some older kids were coming too.
If you read thru this thread there is a lot of info on the trip with links to the Port Lucaya Marina phone so you could check on resevations and availabilty.
Hope you can make it. Never met any of these guys but the trip looks like it's gonna be a Hoot.

Hello and welcome to the group. We all hope you can make it. Right now, there are 8 boats going, 5 on Thursday and 3 on Friday. All 3 boats on Friday are departing from Port Everglades. There is a total of 30 people in the 8 boats plus a few of my son's friends flying over on Friday afternoon. The boats leaving on Thursday will be as follows - 2 out of Miami, 1 out of Port Everglades, 1 out of Hillsboro and 1 out of Boca.

Let me know if you can make it, I'll include you in the Captains meeting and spreadsheet. Please send me a PM with your email address.

Randy

Hi hansen64

Of course you are welcome to join us.
Some of us are crossing Thursday with people leaving out of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Lighthouse Point, and Boca. I believe Tim is leaving out of Lighthouse Point. Another part of our group is making the crossing on Friday out of Port Everglades (3 boats).

I'll be trying to clear the jetties at Port Everglades at 5:30am as we want to get as much distance behind us before the wind and the seas kick up. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. If you are going you will need to make reservations at Port Lucaya Marina.

Ray

Hi Hansen,

I'm departing to Lucaya on Friday Morning at first light, meaning I plan to be at the Port Everglades sea bouy 5:30 am. Two other boats will also meet me at the sea bouy at 5:30AM. We'll head out from there. You could overnight on Lake Sylvia/Sylvan Wednesday and meet up with the flotilla at the sea bouy as well. (We can't hang out to meet up in the port due to security issues.) Or you could join us on an intercept course from Hillsbourough Inlet.

The other two boats run faster than I do, so I'll be bringing up the rear.

I would guess if it's rough you'll quicker than anyone. Assuming good water, what will your cruise speed be?

We should all put some money in a pot so next week we can buy a morning like today. I just came back from the beach and it was perfect. 82 degrees, waves <2' and a nice sharp edge at the horizon. Not a bump in sight. Looking forward to it. Tom

Thanks to all who posted with the welcoming comments. My wife just booked a slip from Thursday-Monday. The marina said they are almost full, but we got in. They weren't aware of our group coming, so whoever has the list of boats/people might want to notify them if we want slips near each other. We aren't yet sure whether we will be departing on Thursday or Friday - my wife needs to check the kids school plans. Regardless of which day we come, we'll be bringing our 15 (almost) year old son and our 17 year old daughter.

Hi Hansen - terrific news!!! I just got you PM and will be sending you the Capt's meeting notes and spreadsheet of the Armada. I'll need some baseline information from you so we can keep up with each other.

The reason they don't have us as a group is because everyone made individual reservations as we went along.

Talk to you soon!

Randy

Well, only 5 more days until departure for Port Lucaya. I'm sure we have all been watching the weather, I read that the winds are to begin tapering off Wed. or so. It shouldn't be too bad on Thursday. Just in case others haven't seen it here is a site that predicts the size of the seas.http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display.cgi?a=bahaman_wave.

The predictions go a week out and are coded in UTC or as the notation on the maps say "z" time . We are 5 hours ahead of "z" time so 6z would be 1am, 12z would be 7am etc.

See you all in Port Lucaya
Ray

Good post Ray. Here are a few things to insure favorable conditions

1 - hold your breath, jump up and down 3 times and chant "huevos desaparece"

2 -light a candle in the bathroom (oops, sorry, wrong problem)

3 - stand on the bow of your boat with you arms stretchered out, facing the Bahamas and ask Triton for help.

4 - stare at your computer screen until 2:00 in the morning to catch the next NOAA update.

5 - Ask Tim to make a deal with the devil

I told you there may be a jinx, but, I think it is going to lay down.

We are packing right now.

key provisions:
1. 5 cases bud light
2. 1/5 of sky
2. gallon of jose cuervo
3. gallon of bacardi
4. 1/5 captain.

oh and I think Chris threw some food down in the bilge. but if not, I think we should be ok.

Ken

"huevos desaparece"

We did our costco trip yesterday.....

12 cases beer
champagne
rum
tequila
gin (for gully washes)
limes

and I think Cathie got some food too.

Guys, Please take some pictures crossing, marina, etc... Cant wait to see the pictures of the FUN! Be carefull and have a great time. JC

From what the provisions look like no one will be sober enough ( my kind of guys) to take pictures. Are we actually supposed to eat on this trip? Maybe I'll get a bag of Pork Rinds.
I am hoping some of these Guys will show me how to post pictures when we get some down time. If they do I'll send all I got.
Jack

starting Thursday, I am on a liquid diet, conch salad is the exception. We must have someone take pictures... it is the trip of a lifetime.

Sounds like Randy needs to make another trip to Costco for Alka Seltzer, Peptobismol, Goody's Powders, Advil, etc.

Oh...& don't forget to take some water...just in case you get thirsty.

Have fun & be careful. Hopefully the weather will clear up by Thursday.

OK guys here it is. I leave tomorrow. I have been sweating the weather for 2 days. Looks like we'll be able to handle it as it's changed 3 times today. I'll be in touch with Randy as we progress. If I can't post we will see you in Lucaya.
Ahhhh the trip of a lifetime.
Jack
I can't believe Garys not blowing us some sh!t.

Guys we packed today. I may need to borrow some beer from randy as I only packed 5 cases.

As Jack said, he is heading our way tomorrow. We will hook up on Tuesday AM and head to key west in rough but ok seas.

Wednesday up to Miami, and Thursday...... Port Lucaya!!!

I did find some room for a little food, but very little.

Jack if you read this, I will see you Tuesday.

Calm and following seas for everyone.

Ken
