Memorial Day trip to Port Lucaya

Thursday departure would be fine - The more time there, the merrier. Probably early Thursday morning would be best?

I'm glad to hear that making it across with a 250 gal tank wasn't as precarious as I thought it would be.

I've heard many stories about the cave bar - I am looking SO forward to that.

I'd like to get together sometime in January if you guys have time - no time like the present!

As an aside, what (besides my passport) do I and my family need to have with us to get into Port Lucaya legally?

Thursday departure is awesome! The more days in the Bahamas, the merrier. BTW, where did you hear about the Cave Bar? I had been to Lucaya 5-6 times before I found it.

We are trying to schedule an overnight raft-up at Lake Boca ASAP. Ray (Ray306) wants to go and so we want to set the date. Is there any weekend in January that isn't good for you?

Regrading the Bahamas entry requirements, each vessel, upon entering the Bahamas for the first time, should fly the yellow "quarantine flag" which indicates the vessel has yet to clear customs and immigration. Upon docking, only the Captain is allowed to disembark the vessel in order to clear. All others have to stay on board until the proper documentation is completed and fees paid. Each person on board is required to have a US passport which should be taken with the captain to the C&I offices. The Capt, immediately upon arrival, should go to the nearest C&I office (2 separate dept's) and fill out all paper work and pay all fees. The fees are $150 for vessels up to 35 feet and $300 for vessels over 35 feet. When the paperwork is completed, the remainder of the crew/passengers may disembark. At this time, the vessel should lower the yellow quarantine flag and raise the Bahamas flag which will indicate that the vessel has cleared C&I and can come/go (within the Bahamas) without a problem.

Please be aware that the US has R&R regarding entrance back into the US. Any vessel over 30 feet must have a "crossing permit" and all persons, upon re-entering US soil, must report to the local C&I office to declare themselves. More info can be found at this site -

if there is anything else I can help with, please let me know.

Odyssey, We did the trip from Stuart to Cape Coral a year ago in December. It was very nice except for the skinny water. Now that the lake is up, I would like to do it again and head over to Grand Bahama.

I think we should try to get a group together to head over.

Absolutely! Lets go. So far we have had a good response to the initial post. Let's keep it up.

Those dates sound great to me - what weekend is going to work for a raft off in Lake Boca for January?

it can't be this weekend, the earliest it could be is the 16-18 or the 23-25. What works best for you and Ray? also, do you guys want to stay overnight? If so, arrive friday or arrive saturday?

Randy

I think the 23-25 would be good - I don't mind staying overnight either. We could make a weekend of it and arrive on Friday...

You all going to let sundecks go with you? Just kidding, The Bimini run is as far as I would go. (Grin) Make sure you all take lots of pictures again, the last ones were great.

Don't forget to obtain an FCC license to avoid breaking the law outside the USofA.

Oh man- there's quite a bit of logistics to think through... I bet the grog will be worth it though. And thank god I went with the 330 DA! I hope they don't measure bow pulpit and swim platform when calculating the fees ;-)

Hey Tim, you're welcome to come down and join us - anytime you need a break, give us a shout on here and I'll do what I can to make you feel welcome!

BTW, the FCC license is $160.00. For What!!!?? The MMSI and Epirb can be registered for free.

We went ahead and got the license a while back knowing we would go to the bahamas sometime, but still don't know what you get for $160.00

Careful, I may take you up on that:grin:. It's a long off-season up here...I don't think my wife and kids would let me go without them:smt009.
