We want to have a friend of ours who lives on LI come out to raft on Sunday afternoon. I would then pick them up via dinghy? Is this feasible if so where would be a good pickup/drop off point.

Dean we usually have the kids park as close to the theatre parking as possible. A short dinghy ride to pick them up.key here is have them arrive as early as possible as e traffic starts to build. I would shoot for 8am or so. Field 5 is most convenient

Thanks Joe, unfortunately they won't be arriving until around 2:30 pm.

They are likely going to have to walk quite a bit then to get to where they can be picked up. They will need to walk down Ocean Parkway past the theater. There is a picnic area along the road, east of the theater, then they will get to a spot where the beach should be visible. Any parking lot they use other than the lot immediately adjacent to the theater will require them to cross either the Wantagh Parkway or Ocean Parkway itself. I am not sure if there are any pass-throughs.

Well, I'm way behind in getting the boat ready but I think I've got my wife on board for Zach's Bay Memorial Day weekend. I need a little local knowledge though. What tide location do you sue? I can't find a schedule for ZB so what's the closest reported location that is representative of ZB? Where do you typically enter the anchorage and where in the anchorage does the group usually set up? Do you guys use a stern anchor? Do I need to be there Friday afternoon or can I wait till Saturday morning? So many questions.....

Brian,
Our plan so far is to come out Friday afternoon after my son is home from school (3:30ish). We will set stern anchors when we have a large enough of a group. Depending on how many boats come Friday, we may spread out to save an area for the raft-up or join together. We would love the company for Friday night, but Saturday morning is fine too.

Joe, which app are you using for the tide information? Do you like it? I was using SeaTow's app, but the tide information has not been working lately.

Since our home port is ~3 Miles away, we may have a "shuttle" running back and forth. and or some day tripper's.
2:30 is getting close to when they may close the southbound traffic.

Ron would that be an option?

Option - sure...Timing is tough as right smack in the middle of the show. if earlier, much easier.... @ that time best to commandeer one of the center console dingy's, its a pretty quick shot...........

If I remember the timing correctly from last year, the main attraction (Blue Angels) will be on between 2 and 3pm. Would be a bad time to have to go get someone from the dock or shore.

As Ron points out, you have to watch the times and traffic restrictions. We've always figured a way to meet guests near that stone awning.

Paul, are you going this year? If so when are you leaving the river?

Brian - I'm leaving on Friday right around 1:30pm, and swinging past W/Islip to hit Gerard. We usually head up the lindy cut..... You want to run in together?

Paul, that's similar to my plan but I'm not comfortable running up the Lindy Cut. I think I've got to take the Babylon cut south. What do you think?

I've done both and comfortable with either route.

Amityville Cut is the way to go... It's marked well this year

Stay out of the amity cut with your boat Brian I was warned by sea tow not to use it with my boat. Lindy cut is fine just watch the tides don't go at dead low and your fine it's a straight run to the state boat channel.

Just a question... A sea tow Cpt told you that?

I run it all the time in my boat... 2009 43DA.. With Pods...

In fact when they delivered it to me in Lindenhurst the Cpt they provided, who is also a Suffolk bay constible took us through amity cut...

Not sure why sea tow would tell you otherwise... You draw the same as me...

****.... Now I don't know what to do... I feel like the next time I run the cut my pods are going to falls off cause you just jinxed me :). I've never taken the Lindy cut... What's that like?? How much time going to add to my trip out to FI? Made it from Freeport to Seaview in 1:20 on Saturday and that's with the annoying 5 mile zone by zachs and tobay... Would there be another one before you get to Lindy cut? By hemlock cove i imagine?
