Hi,

I just joined Club SeaRay today. I'm looking forward to participating in the forums.

I wanted to perhaps make a few suggestions. We were previously looking to buy a Silverton and so I joined the Silverton Owners Club. What I liked about the SOC website was:

1. There is one flat member rate of $28 per year. Everyone that wants to join the SOC pays the $28. The membership fee entitles you to 12 newsletters per year in addition to accessing the forums and other benefits. The newsletter is sent out about every 4-6 weeks. So when you've received your 11th newsletter, a membership renewal notice is sent to you so that you can renew your membership.

2. The SOC affiliated themselves with Boat US; once you join SOC, you're sent a coupon via email that is good for half-price membership to Boat US. So instead of paying a $25 membership fee to Boat US, SOC members pay $12.50. Additionally, SOC members get a $5 discount on Boat US's unlimited towing option. Five dollars is five dollars!

3. There are scheduled Chat Sessions. The chat sessions are scheduled twice a week in the evening, for a specified time period (I think 2 hours each).

4. In the Forum, in addition to topics such as "Gas Engines" or "Repair," etc., there is a link for each type of vessel -- e.g., Silverton 34C Traditional (1989 and older); Silverton 34C Contemporary (1990 and newer); Silverton 362; etc. It would be nice to have a similar type topic list for Sea Rays.

5. There were also links for "Marinas and Restaurants", "Boating Industry News", "From the Captain", "Questions from Wannabees/Newbies."

6. The SOC also puts out a newsletter about once a month to its members. The newsletter (in PDF format) touches on topics such as: specific repair advice; industry news; recalls; events. Members can contribute to the newsletter too, including recent boat trips that were taken. I think they spotlight one member per month.

7. Members are allowed to place classified ads on the website for free until the item sells. Non-members are allowed to place classified ads on the website, too, for a fee.

8. There is a description of how becoming a Member benefits you. It tells you how to become a member (registration & payment procedure) and what the membership perks are.

Anyway, these are just a few of the things I liked about the SOC website. I think it made it for a very robust and energetic forum. I don't know if any of these suggestions are appealing to others, but I just wanted to put it out there.

Thanks.

If it is that good....why would you ever go anywhere else....sounds like Nirvana...

Guess CSR is sub-standard!

We have all of that here, just not organized in the same way. Plus we have mud wrestling and midget tossing.

Club Sea Ray is not affiliated or Sponsored by Sea Ray or Sea Ray Owners Club as far as I know. Not sure about Silverton or how they work.

We have this forum thanks to Jim (the owner) and all those who donate either money, knolwedge or both. Good news is you can become a Silver member for $3 less than Silverton and have all access to everything.

If you join Sea Ray owners club you get a free magazine, hat sticker and can earn points to get a $1500 rebate on a mid to high six-figure yacht.

Don't forget the quarterly invitation-only celebrity roast of various Sea Ray executives, designers and engineers. I bet Silverton doesn't do that.

All good comments. I think to re-organize the site now would be a huge undertaking with the potential for lost information.

The CSR site is searchable, and if you can tolerate the off topic posts and occasional (prepare yourself) portable generator discussions (?) you'll visit long and prosper.

There's plenty of help here. If you are familiar with searching the posts, I'd look there first as not to rear the 'how many times do we have to talk about this' feeding frenzy, if not, just ask. Folks are pretty quick to respond and generally kind.

Oh ya... Welcome to CSR.

And just think about the great pictures we have had on the site.

It's small person tossing, but it is fun.

Hey, I'm a small person, but I'm no midget. I'm all for mud wrestling and midget tossing, but keep your paws off of me, unless you're a hot chick covered in mud - or not covered in mud.

Well I like it as it is, farts, turds, and all those who fluff!:smt043:smt043

I bet they don't have one of these:

Wait... we don't either...

Did a Silverton guy with 6 posts and no boat just show up here telling a bunch of Sea Ray guys how to do things better?

Isn't that sorta like Obama trying to run the country?

Maybe we ought to go to the Silverton site and tell them how to do things. We'll just tell them Al and Yolanda sent us.

I'm neither.

So whose Admirals want to throw John?
