Mr Sweeney was actually very rude to us. we are on our 3rd boat and made it a point to stay away from Mears Point for all of them. Maybe we didn't drive a car that told him we could afford the boat we wanted to look at. Very snobbish, and nowhere near accommodating. AVOID!

I'm sorry to hear this but for us he was positive and realistic in our sale and the market. We have spoke to several people who have had dealings with him and all were positive. I can only speak from my experience.

Oh..... Thanks. I too had a bad experience at Mears in 2006. I drove from RIC to Maryland based on a recommendation from a boat owner on another site. I Don't recall the salesmans name. Light hair. A tad portly with a honking gold Rolex President. Guess I did not count because I drove a 2001 SUV and my Rolex was merely stainless. I waited and waited and waited for the man to get off the phone. He just pointed to the used boat lot and blew me off. Then a fellow and his trophy bride drove up in a high end BMW (Beyond Mere Wealth) with the secret handshake and the requisite gold Rolex. The phone went slam immediately.

In retrospect, I'm glad it happened. Boats were overpriced and money was too easy. However, Mears won't see any of my Bengies in the foreseeable future unless portly light haired gold Rolex man is no longer in their employ. Nothing personal. In 61 years on earth, I have learned voting with my wallet has the best effect

Why don't we end the negative comments and move on. My purpose for this post was simply to give credit where it was due not to tarnish the mans reputation so if other people needed his services he might be of help like he was for us. Our 450 is 19 years old and his expertise got the job done.

So just to play devils advocate for a minute, it's OK to provide your positive experience for others to consider but the negative experiences are not allowed to be considered? I've never considered CSR an "angie's list" but the experiences of fellow boaters, both good and bad, should be considered if one is to make an informed opinion. I've yet to see anyone on here ask about a product, service, etc. by saying "hey fellow CSR members do any of you have experience with X, and by the way just give me the positive ones" While personal attacks (he's fat, ugly, whatever) may be out of line, a bad experience is a bad experience nonetheless.

OK. This is not related to buying/selling boats. And yes, Mom said if you can't say something nice...

But this forum is about helping each other and I have come upon this thread tonight. I'll keep it short as I think I have already posted the long version. Also, I am making no judgement and am merely stating the facts about my personal experience (small print).

Starboard engine not keeping up with Port. Can't get on plane. Was referred to Seven Seas (at Mears). They did a complete analysis and said first I need to tune it up and compresion not right. Paid for both. Not cheap. No improvement. They said I need the top opened to see what's going on. Called. Called again. Called again. Finally, they told me they can't fix it and the engine needs to be replaced. Since they don't make those any more I'll need to re-power the boat. $30K. So for several season, I limped around not on plane wondering how I can save the money to even have the engine re-built. Fast forward. Took it to Long Cove Marina. Good choice! In less than an hour, they determined that: not all plugs were replaced (hard to reach plugs still old), none were gaped correctly, rotor totally burnt out and was never replaced. They did a proper tune up for a very reasonable price and the boat runs great!!! Not trying to disparage, just sharing my story as I remember it.

PS Oh, yea. Can't say for sure when this might have occurred but Long Cove discovered that the flame arrestor was totally missing from the engine in question. Can't imagine when/how that might have happened. Long Cove again did great finding me a perfectly good used one and charged me next to nothing for it. I love Long Cove!

Please note that Seven Seas is a completely separate business entity than Mears Point Yacht Sales. They just happen to work out of the same marina.

if what I bolded was in reference to my post, I meant no harm. I was merely giving a physical description of the man as he would not introduce himself to me.

No not at all... if I recall you said something to the effect of "portly" (I didn't go back to look). Which I agree is akin to "larger fellow" or "thick"... more trying to describe someone for others to potentially recognize.

I was simply referring to the fact that I have seem some folks say "that fat azz" or whatever. I think things like that are out of line, but I do somewhat understand that if someone has had a bad experience its easy to be disparaging... but it doesn't help anyone's case in their assessment of the review.
