With the permission of his family, It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we let you know that our dear friend Dominic (aka OSD9 here on CSR) passed away suddenly on Monday, September 10[SUP]th[/SUP], 2012 at the age of 56. Dominic had an occult brain aneurysm that ruptured on Sunday during a bike ride. He was MedEvac'd to a hospital in North Jersey and despite the best efforts of the doctors and staff, he never regained consciousness. He was placed on a respirator, which kept him alive, though his brain activity had ceased. At Dom’s previous request, and after consulting with his doctors, his family made the decision we all hope to never have to make and he passed around 2pm. .
Dominic was a very special man - a "shirt off your back" type guy. Whatever you needed, whenever you needed it, there he was. Anyone who knew him will tell you that. Ask the perfect strangers that he opened his home (affectionately known as Dom's Marina) to. You will be hard pressed to find a sharper more analytic mind, a quicker wit or a guy who could take it as well as he dished it out! Dom was a good man who always looked out for his family. He had a lust for life - from his love of SCUBA diving to his appointment for skydiving that he won't be able to keep this weekend.
And of course, there was his Searay. This was a guy who owned a couple of 330DAs, a 380DA and of course the well chronicled 410DA (or was it actually a 380DA?!) One Sweet Day 9.
Many of us met on this forum or its predecessor. Dom was a frequent contributor to both - Dom's Dingy Davits, the story of the purchase of the 410, the Aetna Tachs, the Atlantic City trips (always the first one to get pictures up!), the list goes on. I am not one to wear my heart on my sleeve for thousands to see, and you can be sure Dom wouldn't want a big deal made of this, but since our friendship was spawned by the forums, it seemed fitting to get word out to those who might be interested.
I will miss Dom very much. I feel very fortunate to have known him and be able to call him my friend. I was able to get up to see him at he hospital and I was told by that point that he didn't know he was alive ... but I think otherwise. Now, when I think of him, I smile and I cry. Eventually the crying will stop but the smile will remain, forever.
