The Lofrans' Marlin windlass on our '98 270 Sundancer gradually gave out on us on our final retrieval on a 7 day trip on Lake Powell. Raising was intermittent and tapered off to bringing in a few feet of chain in a cycle and ultimately gave out completely. All I could hear was a clicking sound in the anchor compartment. Was able to release the chain with the emergency handle, pull in the remaining chain and reset the wildcat and continue.

Initially this problem was common to both the console toggle and bow foot switches in the heaving direction only. The chain would pay out but not come back in. Later it would neither payout nor heave in, engine running or not. Both batteries are strong.

I checked the 50 amp breaker in the battery control cabinet and it was not popped out. All connections within the anchor compartment are clean and tight, as are the connections to the solenoid in the battery control cabinet. I can hear the Main breaker click when I turn it on or off.

As the problem is common to both sets of controls, I suspect their might be something wrong with the Main control switch. Anybody have similar problems and insight on how to correct it?

My Marlin windlass also went south today. I found the black lead to the motor loose and when I went to tighten, the terminal broke off. Anyone know where I can obtain parts?

Thanks,

Glenn

+1. Exact same thing happened to me today. It's only a ground terminal so might not be a big deal, you might be able to fasten anywhere else. Didn't have time to test or fix...
