Well finally after a a couple of years of looking, we've found a nice 270 Sundancer that we may put an offer on. So I'm trying to do some homework beforehand.

Can anyone recommend a marine surveyor in the Annapolis, MD area? In addition to the standard hull survey and sea trial, I'm also looking to find someone to look over the engine too.

BoatUS lists several and I've looked those over with websites, but would like to get some members who've dealt with surveyors to weigh in on who I should (and who I should not!) choose.

Thanks!

Call Steve Sanders of East Coast Surveying. He's who I use for anything I am buying - 410-310-0714

Alan C. Gaidelis, AMS #784. I just used Alan from Bayside Marine Surveying, INC to survey a Weekender 300 I am buying. It may not be a big deal to some but he asked if I wanted to be there during the survey and took extra time to review all the test and equipment he was checking. He spent extra time to make sure I understood everything and answered even my stupid questions. i am stepping up from a 2452 Bayliner.

I forgot contact number for Bayside Marine Surveying. 410-335-3955 or 877-915-5399.

I learned more than I thought I would and was very impressed.

Thanks for the recommendations again. We've decided to pass on that 270, and 270's in general. For the money, the 280 seems to be the sweet spot and the perfect boat for our family.
We just got back from looking at a nice 280 in the area, so I'll still have use for one of these surveyors!

btw, are there seperate professionals that do mechanical surveys...engine compression checks, risers, outdrive inspection...or do some of the same people do this in addition to the hull survey and sea trial?

I think the answer is yes. Bob did not do compression checks, oil tests, etc on mine but he did go over the engines while we were under seatrial with a laser temp checking readings, looked at oil color, noted all filter types, took SNs, etc. He did go over my drives and bellows when it was hauled out looking for problems. He did find an exhaust bellows that was disconnected and they put it back on right on the spot. I later replaced the old bellow style with the newer tube type exhaust connection.
