Can anyone give me an idea of the industry standard labor rate for a marine engine mechanic? I know markets are different. I've had prices anywhere from $85/hour to $125/hr for on-site repairs.

$95/hr for local marina service, $65/hr for one of their mechanics who left and went out on his own.

BTW, do not be afraid to ask for a labor estimate up front. Boats are different from cars in that you never know what you are going to run into, like a rusted bolt, bolt breaks off, need to remove the heat exchanger to get to the sea water pump, crap like that.

However a good shop should be able to give you a labor estimate and they should be able to tell you why it ran over if it does. I ask them to take a look at "our" engine compartment and give me an estimate.
