%$#@& Marina!

If it makes you feel any better, there is a marina down the street from us that doesn't allow washing or waxing on site except for their people. They will lightly hose your boat and for an extra $40 they will use soap. There is no engine flushing allowed. The racks run 12.50 a foot per month (and they measure including the engine in the upright position) and slips are more.

This is the norm for Florida marinas. Charge alot, do nothing and complain about northerners. I guess that's why northerns call them southerners and everything that that means.

My marina leases shop space to various businesses but reserves the haulout/pressurewashing for their own staff. They have some issues with outside vendors who come on the property to do work without the overhead incurred by their tenants. It is understandable but they don't have issues with the DIYers.

I will pay a few bucks more for parts with the marina tenant and give him the work I can't or don't want to perform. It pays off big time when I have a question about my DIY projects. He'll graciously take a few minutes to offer suggestions to keep me on track with my projects. I feel very fortunate to have developed this relationship, I want to see him succeed even though I always complain about his ability to rack up the dollars on a job, I have always been pleased with the quality of his work. I had an estimated $1200 job turn into $2000. I can't fault him because I kept calling him with the while its apart can you check the.......

Man I've never heard of such strict rules! Hope they never come this way. We have always been allowed to wax the boat prior to launch. Your allowed to work on your own boat. Any outside labor has to pay the marina a fee to get in though which is understandable. Not being able to wash and wax is just dumb.
